Bibi is the Indiana Jones of Tennis Balls

| 11 Comments on Bibi is the Indiana Jones of Tennis Balls

Bibi has been finding all sort of old toys in random crannies of the house. Today she found an old tennis ball next to one of Hairy’s pairs of shoes and demanded I play fetch with her while I was trying to print out receipts for accounting!! I cannot deny her. Flickr, you so funny. Nice preview of my buttcrack.

Pool Tradeshow Video Montage & Wrap-Up!

| 31 Comments on Pool Tradeshow Video Montage & Wrap-Up!

Pool Tradeshow in Vegas, Feb 2010 from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo. The tradeshow was a very interesting adventure. We got a great response to all the goodies. Just like at a craft fair, it’s a little nerve-wracking to be there and to feel like you and your work are being judged, but everyone was really delighted by what they saw, and that makes me happy. The booth was really cute, we had our own security guards to guard our booth at night, and the company I partnered up with hooked our booth up with breakfast and lunch every day, delivered right to Yummy You. It was pretty sweet!! I’m mentally preparing for what I am going to have to do next! Our team managed to put this all together from nothing, basically in 6 weeks. It was kind of amazing. Of course there is always room for improvement on things here and there, so the next one can only get better! I like the idea of having 6 months to prep :). Hairy asked if I saw any famous people. Well, not really. I saw Masuimi Max, and Miss Nevada, and Simone Legno was our booth neighbor, but aside from that, I didn’t have a lot of opportunity to walk the main Magic floor where there might be “celebs.” My crochet elf Rita came to hang out at the booth and walk around and she saw Jeffree Star, but yeah, about 99% of the population would probably have no idea who any of those people are. I did not see Puff Daddy or anything…. On Tuesday night, we had din dins with Scott and Lauren from Badge Bomb. They are like the nicest people you will ever meet, and they are from the Bay Area! And FYI, if you want to buy individual Yummy You buttons, you can get them directly from the site. On Wednesday night, Rita picked me up from the show, and we went to eat with her sister Kat, my other crochet elf, at a sushi buffet! I never see them since they live in Vegas, so it was soooo nice to hang out with them for a bit, eventhough I was completely brain dead! I have no idea how people can work the show all day, and then party in Vegas all night. I wish I could!!! I just wanted to fall down dead ever night afterward! And I basically did. I wish I had better pictures of everything, but I wasn’t sure if we wanted to release any of the new stuff to the public yet until it all hits the stores. Some of my fav online stores will carry it, too, but I’ll keep that a secret as well for now. But I’m so happy to finally have my product in places that I love and have shopped at, too! You’ll seee!! 😉

This Meal Was Full of Romance & Sexy

| 27 Comments on This Meal Was Full of Romance & Sexy

We rarely trek down to San Jose, but this afternoon, we met up with Shrinkle, Kevin, and Tess to eat at BOILING CRAB. I love eating with my hands!!! First, let’s talk about this guy. He was standing outside the restaurant so I snuck a creepy photo of him through the window (and the fisherman netting that was decorating the window). Please note the Star Trek Shirt and the full-on side ponytail. Hairy said that anyone could wear that shirt, but this guy knew how to STYLE it. Shrinkle said that if I posted this pic, someone reading my blog would be all like, “UH THAT’S MY DAD!!!!” My thought is: what’s wrong with that? We are totally celebrating your dad!!!! Me and Hairy await the feast. Amy and Tess being gangsta. We ended up ordering 2 crabs, 3 lbs of crawfish, 3lbs of shrimp, corn, potatoes, fried catfish, fried calamari, and oysters! (Did I leave anything out!?) I leaned forward in that pic so Amy’s head wouldn’t seem like the biggest. This pic inspires me to go to Boiling Crab every Valentine’s day in a fancy dress. After parting ways, Hairy and I walked back to our car and saw this sign hanging in another restaurant!!! And then I went and got a frozen yogurt (original tart, strawberries, Cap’n Crunch, and granola). Yes, I’m a huge fattie and now I’m eating Moose Munch popcorn….

Ringing in the New Year with a ball-winder!

| 14 Comments on Ringing in the New Year with a ball-winder!

Hairy’s mom got me a ball-winder for Xmas, which is really cool! I tried it out tonight for the first time with some Cascade 220 at 4 in the morning and made you a little short video. You’ll notice that in the beginning, the ball-winder’s clamp falls off. Oops!!! I don’t have a swift (yet!) so I still have the yarn wrapped around my knees, which can lead to some snagging still. But anyway, I imagine if you have kids, this would be a fun activity for them. It’s pretty cool! 1st time using a ball winder! from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo.

Some photos of my new booth at Bazaar Bizarre!

| 30 Comments on Some photos of my new booth at Bazaar Bizarre!

Wow, what a weekend! We basically had to build up stock for BazBiz in 2-3 weeks and I was stressing out about not having enough to actually put on display! It turned out ok though. I think people were delighted and there was a lot of giggling in my vicinity. I always like to make people giggle. Here’s a quick video montage. I never take enough video or photos at these things! Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco 09 from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo. I only got 1 hr of “sleep” on Friday night, and then took 3 hr nap when we got home. Since I was running out of brooches, I decided to make more and then I didn’t go to sleep until 7am again! Oops! So I’m sorry if I sounded completely idiotic to anyone who visited. I was probably running on 4% brain capacity at that point. I would’ve been falling asleep at my booth had it not been COMPLETELY FREEZING!!! AHHH! My fingernails were turning purple! Hairy put an ad on Craigslist last week for me because we wanted an oven-ish display unit to go with my fridge-ish display unit. At first I was afraid that the unit was going to be way too huge and look weird next to my fridge, but after all the was painted and done, IT LOOKED AWESOME!!! We picked up the oven in Petaluma in the rain on Friday night, and it was totally worth it. I am hoping to store it up in the bedroom and use the shelves for tshirts and the “stove top” for other stuff, too. It’s perfectly awesome. She even put hooks on it, so that’s what the zipper clutches are hanging from. Zambi came for visits!!!! And she brought me the cutest little necklace and phone dangly of a cartoon-me wearing a pizza scarf. She is so talented. I heart her! Also I met her mom who was super duper supremely nice! During the craft fair, I made this peppermint candy scarf: I put it up around 3pm on Sunday and it’s still for sale. It will be part of my big leftovers-Etsy-update which I am trying to have up tomorrow, but I have to shoot pics of everything! From my experience this weekend, I have two new rules for being an awesome visitor at a craft fair. 1) Do not roll your eyes at price tags, or ask sellers how much something is and then say “WOW” out loud and put the item back (especially when there was also a SIGN that said how much the thing was!). It’s really rude and disrespectful. I respect that you might not like my stuff or might not have the money to buy it, and I don’t take that personally. But you need to respect the time and love that artists put into their items. I am not a sweatshop worker. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it’s plain un-classy to insult someone to their face! […]

Stuff off our newly resurrected camera!

| 12 Comments on Stuff off our newly resurrected camera!

Hairy and I left the battery charger to our digital camera in L.A., so Hairy just ordered a new one off eBay, and I was finally able to get the few snaps of the Hello Kitty Fashion event off the thing!! We’re waiting for the show to start! Me and the Ladies of BubblePunch! Me and our cute modelVictoria Rawlins. My head is so much bigger than hers. Me and Marissa/PizzicatoKei, my collab partner, pal, and crochet elf! I’m hoping that one day, Sanrio will post its profesh video of the fashion show. In the meantime, here are a few snippets. I think Hairy wanted to film the WHOLE show and I was like… that’s cray cray!!! So he just got tidbits of ChubbyBunny‘s outfit, ours, and the Shrinkle Hello Kitty mascot outfit at the end!

New People Artist Village Vol 1 !

| 9 Comments on New People Artist Village Vol 1 !

Last Friday night and all day Saturday, Hairy and I manned a table for New People Artist Village Vol 1. Friday night was the preview night with free food and booze. I sampled neither. I was kind of in a daze the whole weekend because I had gotten about 11 hours sleep spread over 3 days before the event. Not enough for me!!! But I had an idea of what I wanted my table to look like, and I was not ready to quit!! It’s hard to see because of the white on white….but my new display unit is in full effect!!! Our friend Paul made it. It’s supposed to resemble a fridge, but I didn’t have time to special order the right handle or really put together a good fridge-like sign for it. It wasn’t even painted, just primed! But we only had 2 weeks after the Hello Kitty insanity to get everything together! I really like my new fridge shelf. It actually goes down all the way to the floor, but since we didn’t have a lot of space at this event, I only loaded the top half of it and hid it behind the table. I want a little oven one, too! Here’s a pic that Michelle took. I told her I didn’t even remember this pic being taken. I know that I am waving, but I think I had sleep dep black-out problems. BTW, we made the little ghetto cake stands that a lot of my stuff is displayed on. I didn’t have a lot of time or money to spend on actual cake stands, so I glued plastic wine glasses and plastic plates together, and Hairy spray-painted them gold and silver. Initially they were going to be pink, blue, and gold, but the pink and blue paint didn’t stick on the plates!!! I do not really recommend this set-up because the cake stands were really light and flimsy and I kept knocking them over!!! So either (as Sarah, Amy’s sister suggested) weigh down the plastic wine glasses with rocks or marbles first before gluing them to the plates….OR….. what I’m doing now is shopping at Goodwill for glass plates and candle holders to glue together! I bought my first set on Sunday for $2.50 each. On Saturday, Hairy left in the middle of the day to clean the house because Cousin Vic was going to stay at our place for a few nights. Then Shrinkle and her sis pointed at me meanly. Bullies! Another side story about my table: I don’t know if you can tell from the pics (these are all mostly various people’s phone cam pics cuz we left our camera charger in L.A.), but I had just bought my table cloths on Friday afternoon. I decided to go to Ross cuz it was right next to the bank, and I picked up a flannel sheet set with cute pastel stripes and a regular white table cloth. When I went to line up, […]

Grapefruit Shower Gel Smells like B.O.

| 13 Comments on Grapefruit Shower Gel Smells like B.O.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Yesterday, we had an arts/crafts-tastic Sunday. After walking the doggies (here’s a boring but recent video of them! Videos will lack sound fx or music today. I’m not allowing myself fun-video-making time today!) we headed over to Indie Mart to check out the goods and to meet Vivianna of PolkaDotRobot!. You should check out their site because they are having a 24 hour sale, and it ends at midnight tonight PST! Hairy and I also both bought shirts for $5 from VintageVantage.com. Here’s mine! I would have worn it today, but I have a thing about washing any clothing before wearing it!!! Afterward, we went to check out a new studio space for Hairy and his screenprinting stuffs. It’s a shared work space/art gallery, and I think he’s really into it. Right now, his stuff is in some other dude’s basement. Sorry for the crap quality. It’s from my phone! In other news, check out the little Q&A I did over at 84area.com! Okay, this is really random, but here are my thoughts on 2 Kiehl’s products (I LOVE their Ultra Facial Cream btw, especially now that it’s getting drier outside): So my hair stylist Jules gave me permission to NOT condition my hair all the time. We of the coarse, straight, flat Asian hair, desire to wreck our hair as much as possible so that it has texture, and, for me, VOLUME! The not-conditioning thing was like this brilliant stroke of genius! The downside: static!!! But while I was at the Kiehl’s booth, I picked up a volumizing Rice and Wheat shampoo, and just picked up the Rice and Wheat conditioner, too (we were trying to spend enough for the free gift). I’ve had it since Houston and never tried it. The other day I tried the conditioner…and WOW!!! I was really afraid I would have the dreaded FLAT HAIR that stupid Pantene gives me because my hair was feeling SO SOFT. But after my regular styling and drying, I was pleased to discover that SOFT does not have to mean FLAT. I was really impressed with this product!!! I was less impressed with one of the free samples we got of the grapefruit shower gel. While I am not a big fan of citrus scents to begin with, I really felt like I was rubbing the scent of armpits all over my body. Maybe I’m weird and my B.O smells like grapefruits….who knows. But this was definitely not my fav! Alrighty, I am going to make me some cake-inspired pouches/purses now! Thanks so much for your thoughts and feedback! As someone commented, you can’t please everyone, and that’s for sure. Usually when I design things, I design them to please MYSELF and I think about what I would actually use and like, so it’s interesting to hear what others use and like, too.

Would Love Feedback from You Guys!

| 83 Comments on Would Love Feedback from You Guys!

Hey Gang, I’m gearing up for the New People event and am wondering about sumthinsumthin! Would love to know your thoughts! Pouchy Preference! from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo. The Gods Who Decide Which Shot to Use for Movie Previews are never kind to me, are they? Sheesh! Snaggletooth much? I’ve also been working on my ruffley salad scarflette. Here’s where it was at last night. Today I’ve been building on the ruffles and making them BIGGER! There’s almost two skeins of Malabrigo in this sucker right now!!!! Ok I just took a pic of the bigger version: I’m still going to edge the leaves in dark green, and then maybe add some radishes and tomatoes! It still doesn’t look that much bigger in the picture. But if I keep adding to the leaves, this thing will weigh a kajillion pounds! I’m also eager to try making the waffle cowl I’ve always wanted! I need to pick yarn for it! (Oh no….MORE YARN SHOPPING…..). But I guess having the perfect color and perfect weight and perfect texture are more important to me than using up the old stash. Onward!

Soooooooo I guess I am naturally not feeling like blogging as much with all my deadlines coming up! EEEEK I’ll be so proud to have survived October when it’s over!!! On Friday I flew down to L.A. for the day for a meeting. I don’t want to say much until something ACTUALLY happens, if anything, but let’s just say the meeting went well, and they even provided cupcakes and kitty cat notebooks!!! 🙂 I also got the most rando little prezzie ever from my manager. Lord knows why he had them in the 1st place! Mexican Jumping Beans! They started jumping around in their little container inside my purse, and I couldn’t figure out what it was for a little bit! Since I can’t post any progress pics of what I’ve been working on, we’ll skip to checking out a few cute things today. You can click on the images to go the pages. Where the Wild Things Are-inspired clothing line!!!

| 4 Comments on Where the Wild Things Are-inspired clothing line!!!

So I was catching up on the goings-on over at Audrey Kitching’s Buzznet page, where she mentions Opening Ceremony’s line inspired by Where the Wild Things Are. Everything is a bit above my price range…. but I NEED to have a faux monster fur skirt!!! STAT!!! On a somewhat similar note, I bumped into these gems on Etsy!! I’m tempted! I’m going to blow your mind now with the most awesome costume/dress ever by my girl Nicole Lindner: Today, my work-schedule hit a serious speedbump when the power went out at my parents’ house and I had a lot of trouble with the security alarm going haywire…. Fast foward through time…the power is back, thanks be to Odin!!! I went out and bought those Jesus/Mary candles at Lucky’s because they were cheaper (2 for $3) than the fancy yucky scented candles in the actual “Candles” section of the grocery store. I don’t regret buying 6 of them, though, because now I can take them back to my house and be prepared!!! They aren’t very bright…but they are better than nothing! I was about to post a quickie VLOG after watching Cuppy’s, but the power went out right as I was bringing up Vimeo!!! Sorry I look like a troll. I have been getting like 3-4 hrs of sleep per night cuz my parents’ dogs wake up early and need to fed, and then my dogs start barking at every little thing all day long! Back to making sushi scarf!

Cloudy With A Chance of Prime Rib

| 9 Comments on Cloudy With A Chance of Prime Rib

This weekend we saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in RealD 3D. The movie was really cute. How could I not like it? It’s filled with GIANT FOOD!! We took a pic with the three of us in our 3D glasses but (A) they kind of look like our normal selves with our normal glasses and (B) we think that Manda has the pics on her phone! But I didn’t think the 3D effect was as good in this movie as when we watched My Bloody Valentine in RealD. When I said on Twitter that I don’t really like watching animated movies, I felt like I had just said Santa Claus didn’t exist. It reminded me of the time I mentioned that I don’t actually like eating the frosting on cupcakes, and the internet gasped. It’s true, I refuse to watch Lilo and Stitch to this day. I have no idea why. I think it has to do with that I think they made her eyes too far apart or something….ANYWAY!!! We also celebrated my dad’s birthday by going to Broadway Prime for prime rib. I thought it would be neat to make him home-made spicy beef jerky since he likes super spicy stuff, so Hairy made (what I am told) is incredible Thai Spicy Jerky!!! (It’s too spicy for me to try!) I think it was a hit, though, and I’m excited to try to formulate a Hamburger-flavored jerky! I never remember to bring my point and shoot anywhere, so these pics from dinner are from Hairy’s iPhone!! It was served with popovers (yum!), a choice of potatoes ( most of us got the garlic mash), and a choice of creamy corn or creamy spinach. I got the spinach, but it was ALL CREAM AND NO SPINACH. I couldn’t eat it. It was like eating spoonfuls of butter with some green flecks inside of it. Tonight, while Hairy was out, I finished off the rest of my prime rib with my hands. I admit, that when I eat alone, at home, I usually eat REALLY fast and REALLY gross!!!! There’s no time to linger. There’s other stuff to do!!! LIKE MAKE STUPID VIDEO CLIPS! I didn’t even bother to warm up the meat. But that’s ok… it was easier to pry off the cubes of FAT!

Paisely Peacock Tulle Flower Headband by Tarina Tarantino. 6. Red Vintage Peep Toe Sandals from thelasthurrah. 7. Pattern for Felted Cow Bag! by sonicka. 8. Cream Colored Strapped Ankle Boots by thecrumpetcloset On Tuesday, I flew to Las Vegas for the day to attend the MAGIC tradeshow. I wouldn’t normally go just for kicks, but my reps and I had a meeting with a company re: Twinkie Chan business, and they were kind enough to provide badges for us to attend. We walked the floor quite a bit and checked out a bunch of brands. I ran into Susan of ModCloth.com and also saw Ted from Poketo. Those were probably the only 2 peeps I actually knew there! I thought I saw Jamie from JapanLa, but she was talking to a bunch of girls and I didn’t manage to make eyecontact with her while we were walking by. I was there for about 6 hours and really didn’t get to see everything! Maybe if I get the chance to go again (it happens twice a year), I will plan to spend a little more time and bring a pal! After my meeting, which started a bit late, there was no time for dinner. I had to get back to the airport! The line for a cab was REAAALLLY long, like won’t-make-your-flight long. This one guy kept yelling that there was no line for a limo. When asked how much the limo ride was, he said $60. Split 4 ways with some other ladies from the tradeshow meant a mere $15, which was basically what I paid to take a cab earlier in the morning. SOLD!!! Smooth ride. No wait. Awesome tunes. What’s not to love? My diet for the day consisted of a Starbuck’s blueberry scone, french fries around 3pm, and then 2 Mrs. Field’s cookies around 7:00. When I got home, Hairy made yummy Thai Food and we ate dinner at about 11:00. It was a carbtastic, long day! I leave you with a sweet video clip of the limo party. I was actually nothing like a party, which made the setting even more funny. (OK it’s really fuzzy and pixelated and basically looks like a sonogram. Sorry. It’s all I got.) I hope my next blog update will be all about new stuff on ETSY!! I still need to finish some items and shoot photos of them all tomorrow! Oh, P.S., here’s a photo that Hairy snapped of me when I got home from Vegas…..TIREDZ!!!! My head is on Bibi’s butt, and her head is on my knee. Nap snuggling!

Soooo, our quickie whirlwind trip to Disneyland/L.A. was everything an all-American McDonald’s advertisement will have you believe: FOOD, FOLKS, and FUN. Galore. Times infinity. Plus more food. Here’s the four of us at Disneyland. This might be my favorite pic from the trip: me and the little lady on the beach at Santa Monica Pier!!! It was a reference to the fact that I feel weird about witnessing people putting their hands in someone’s butt pocket in public! I would like to state for the record that Manda started it. She’s a cheeky little monkey. Pun intended. But clearly she was too afraid to commit to the whole hand. Look at me, digging for gluteus gold! Here’s my most genius video montage. Trust me. 6 minutes seems like a long video, but if you can make it to at least about 3:57, you’ll be greatly rewarded!! Disneyland / LA TRIP! from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo. Candy Hearts & Sammiches

| 9 Comments on Candy Hearts & Sammiches

Today, a couple of us went over to Manda’s for a mellow Sunday afternoon. I decided I would bring little PB&J sandwiches cut into hearts!! I also sported my new not-so-top-secret-anymore project: a collaboration with Faeriesmak. After drawing the Sweet Toof tee, I REEEAAALLY wanted an actual necklace that looked like a heart-shaped candy cane. So I teamed up with Teiva, mistress of Faeriesmak, to make my dream come true! I really love it!!! We are still tweaking some final things, but two versions of the candy cane heart necklace will be available sooner rather than later in my Etsy shop. YAY! I’m really bad at keeping secrets and creating surprises…. Yesterday, Hairy and I went to the Harajuku Kawaii Experience/opening for the New People Center thingie on Sunday. I did not take very many pictures, because I feel weird about taking pics of other people I don’t know! Also, I tried to take some video of the 6%DOKIDOKI Makeover Contest, but I think we were too far away, and it would have been really hard to see. Here is one video clip of the top 5 finalists when asked to do some sort of cute dance together: Go here for a SLIDE SHOW on mtvIggy.com. When Hairy and I first got there, we bumped into Marissa and Josh pretty quick and all decided to eat. Everywhere was really packed, so we went to On the Bridge. Out in the crowd, we also ran into Amy Shrinkle. She gave me a sample of her new eyeshadow line, Sugarpill, and later, she molested my buttcheeks on the first/toy floor of the new building, so I poked hers back repeatedly, like testing if your cupcakes are done yet. There was a GIANT line to actually get into the stores, so I just figured we wouldn’t try getting in that day. We live in SF after all and can go any time. But to my surprise, Marissa, who had been a top 15 semi-finalist for the contest, grabbed my arm and started to guide me toward the building. She said that the contestants were getting into the stores without waiting in line, and that they could bring friends!! But they were bringing in a lot of friends, and I couldn’t quite tell if it was all on the up and up, so I was all scared that I was going to get yelled at!! It was really hot inside, we got interviewed on film, and Marissa bought two ADORABLE dresses from 6%DOKIDOKI. I am really not a lolita nor into lolita fashion on my own person, so the lolita stuff was kind of not imperative for me to see. If I go back, I will probably mostly browse in the 6%DOKIDOKI area. It was really sparse when we got in there, so I hope it gets bulked up so I can see more! Afterward, we went to Target to buy toilet paper and other exciting stuff. We also saw District 9, which I […]
