My New (Sucky) Phone

| 11 Comments on My New (Sucky) Phone

Okay, so, one of the things I take pride in is how few cell phones I’ve owned/bought. I was always really late on the technological game when it came to communication. My friend Margaret bought me my first cell phone because I refused to get my own. She picked it out, and it was the same phone that the angels used in the Charlie’s Angels remake: I had this phone for a kabillion years before it konked out on me, and I broke down and got a little black Sony Ericson in 2006. The camera phone was terrible, and I still had to txt people on the number pad while everyone else had fancy qwerty pads. Unfortch, this meant that Manda’s 3 paged txts to me from her iPhone were probably answered with stuff like “ok” and “no.” Despite how awful it was to txt people, I really didn’t NEED a fancier phone. I used to have a desk job with computer and phone access all day. And then after I left my job, I was still in front of a laptop all day at home, so, having email and internet on a cell phone was just not logical for me. When my Sony started biting the dust a few weeks ago, I decided to walk into the AT&T store with Manda and just see what my options were, and I walked out with a Samsung Propel with unlimited media. Apparently my plan was “so old” that I got all these upgrades for no extra money. Sweet, right? Well, I can’t get the internet to work, and now, I can’t get the PHONE to work inside my own house! What the hell? Should the difference in phone change my reception, even though it’s the same carrier? I don’t use my landline, and I work from home. If my cell doesn’t work in my house, it is nearly useless to me. My mom says to return it, but I wonder if I will just have the same prob with a different phone, and it looked like my other option was some form of Blackberry (uh, do those come in pink, by any chance?). I hung out with my mom today, and she randomly showed up at my door before I had gotten out of bed. WHY?! Because when she called, she apparently left a voicemail, THAT I NEVER RECEIVED, because MY PHONE DOESN’T WORK IN HERE! AHHH! Very frustrating. I guess I have to go back to Palo Alto to see what I can do, but if the phone works in the store, I don’t know what he will tell me!

I kinda forgot that I threw a bunch of Bibi pics up my Flickr but never put them in my blog! So for your lazy Sunday enjoyment, here are a bunch of cute doggie pics. I was trying to get a cute pic of her to make Bibi’s Tour of World Peace t-shirts, but, I didn’t lower my photo lights, and, she is impossible to get to stay still!

Out on the town (Pics)

| 7 Comments on Out on the town (Pics)

So I don’t go out much these days, and even if I do, I don’t really drink. I’ll generally be okay with being the designated driver if Hairy wants to have a drink or beer or two. Me and alcohol have never been great friends. I didn’t even have a whole drink until I was about 27 (thanks, Eric Silver). I just always thought it tasted yucky and I needed nor wanted any part of it. I thought it was really silly in general. Nowadays, if there is dancing to be done, I will need a drink or two or I will hide in a corner. Somehow I feel like drinking is very draining on the body, so I need to be mentally prepped for a night out on the sauce. It is Manda’s spring break right now, so, we stuffed our fat selves into Oliver’s little Firebird and headed to our beloved 1984 at the Cat Club. It is our go-to for cheezy, finger-snapping good times. I was actually sitting next to Hairy but wasn’t able to get myself in the cramped photo! This is Manda toasting to spring break: Here’s us on drink #1: Here’s Hairy and Oliver while I accost them with my camera. I kinda can’t remember when in the evening this was taken. I never know what kind of face to make in candid photos, because the person always takes so long to take the pic, and by the time the pic has been taken, I’ve already made like 5 funny faces and am spent! Also, my hair was totally melting and it was making me sad. I require structural integrity in my ‘do to mantain a high level of self confidence. It was quite dark in the club through the camera viewfinder, so all the pictures were sort of blindly taken and poorly auto-focused. For instance, I had no idea what Oliver and Paul were doing until I reviewed the photos today: I think this is an especially manly photo, don’t you agree? This is photo is only funny to me and Manda, probably: I was holding the camera, thinking I was taking a photo of Manda and myself, but I didn’t realize I had the camera pointed the wrong way, and I took a picture of Paul instead on accident. It’s not very funny to re-tell it, but at that moment, I was like, OMG, I’m a huge moron, and maybe kinda drunk, and it was the funniest thing ever, and I could barely breathe. There were some more, really unflattering, really sweaty photos, that will not see the light of the internet. I may not have a LOT of shame, but I do have just a little. This morning, Manda woke up with a snot fountain in her nose, and I feel like I am getting a nice, itchy little cough. Bummer!!! Going out in public = exposure to GERMS!!!!!!!

1. Cute Cupcake Bow Purse by Em and Sprout at SickForCute.com 2. Macaron Framboise Ring at Bird on the Wire/Suicidal Shop 3. Reconstructed Vintage Tulip Dress by Postlapsaria. It’s sold already, but you can still check out her other goodies. 4. MP3 Upholstered Head Board from Target.com. I am shopping for a bedframe or headboard, and I thought this was so cute and funny! 5. This is just an adorable cake made by Heidi of MyPaperCrane.com. I love it! 6. Pink Snake Dress by NewYorkCouture on Etsy. Um, I love this. I can’t believe I had enough self control to not buy this. It is kind of inspiring to make a Bjork swan dress of my own to prance around in! 7. I kind of want this Rainbow SnoCone Necklace by IndyGrrrlProductions on Etsy super badly. I’m also astounded I had the self control to abstain from purchasing! 8. Um, okay, my dirty secret right now is that I bought a BUNCH of these little Marshmallow dolls from scrumptiousdelight on Etsy. I know. Most frivolous purchase ever, right?! UGH!!! But they are so cute. And I want to turn my bedroom eventually into a girltastic candy colored paradise, and I imagined these babies on my princess-style make-up table, encouraging me to be cute and plump and pink!!! Now I am going to take a quick break from commission work to make something new and cute for the next Boutique Angels eBay charity auctions! I hope it turns out the way I want!!!! Fingers crossed. Pictures soon.

Fun Tidbit on my Flickr Stats….

| 7 Comments on Fun Tidbit on my Flickr Stats….

Do you guys ever check your referral stats on Flickr? I like to check out what’s there from time to time. On google image search I got a lot of searches for my tattoos yesterday! Random! But on google itself, check out what someone searched for. Click on the image to see all sizes/bigger sizes. I think this is so cute because I’m a complete idiot when it comes to makeup. I don’t really know how to do anything fancy. If I try to use colorful eyeshadow or eyeliner, I feel like a clown or a prostitute (one time I came back from a photoshoot and my cousin said I looked like a ‘busted geisha’), so I pretty much have the same look every darn day. I have an automatic morning routine, and I always buy the same products over and over again. But just In case anyone was interested, here are some of my go-to products: (taken for ShanaLogic.com) (I picked a nice and happy photo for y’all here!) Eye Liner: Revlon ColorStay in the black. My eyes are really watery or oily, and most eyeliners smudge and rub right off me. This one has some good staying power, but it’s self-sharpening so there’s never a sharp tip. I also use this on my eyebrows and carefully smudge with my fingers, because I am LAZY and don’t bother to use a separate special brow pencil. Eye shadow: CoverGirl, in whatever the sparkly black is. It’s not the most pigmented stuff ever, but I like that you can stick the sponge applicator in the case, and that I can just pick it up from Walgreen’s or Safeway whenever I want. (See, nobody worth their makeup-salt is going to use eyeshadow sponge applicators!!! I do have brushes, but I never use them. I’m too LAZY. The sponge applicator is right in there! I do buy extra applicators from CoverGirl and replace it regularly so I don’t get any STYES or anything.) Blush: Bourjois in Rose D’or. It smells good, too! The downside is I ALWAYS break the hinges on the case, and I ALWAYS just slap a piece of First Aid tape on there and call it a day. It works! Powder: I use the pressed powder compact from Shiseido. I haven’t experimented very much with powders or foundations. This is pretty much what my mother first got me years and years ago and I just stuck with it! I have fairly oily skin, so I don’t want to venture so much into liquid foundations. Lip Gloss: I do not like lipstick. I am a lipgloss girl. My current fave is Bourjois also, in Framboise Magnific #23. Sometimes I switch it up with Shiseido Shimmering Lipstick in SL 14. It has sparkles! And I love the color. However, because of the sparkles, it can feel a little funky on your lips, so I don’t use it a lot except for taking photos or going out. That’s pretty much it. Don’t forget […]

Small Etsy Update

I just put 3 styles of sugar cookie brooches in my Etsy shop. Check ’em out! I will also be adding two scarves there, hopefully over the weekend. I’m also working hard to get an eBay auction up by Monday with never-seen-before themed goodies! Exciting! Also, while in Whole Foods, I figured out how to have an “Easter” item without it being a Peep or chocolate bunny or easter egg (all of which I really don’t want to use as inspiration for items). I’m SUPER DUPER EXCITED to make this new item. It will have great colors. But if you have other Easter favorites that are not the aforementioned, I’m happy to hear! 🙂

Just in case anybody was wondering….

| 2 Comments on Just in case anybody was wondering….

I didn’t make it. I went to bed at 5:30am at least. Sigh. I was hoping that public shame would help me out, and it did a little, but not enough!!! I don’t think it’s that I really have “insomnia,” it’s just that even if I wake up at 7:30am, I can still be awake and feeling like I want to be productive until 4 or 5am, and then I just wake up late again the next day. I think what I lack is determination? I dunno. Trying again tonight. Because on Thursday morning I have to be ready by 7:30 am to entertain the plumber….

I’m a Night-Owl Rehab Drop Out

| 2 Comments on I’m a Night-Owl Rehab Drop Out

I KNOW. I know. I know that everyone wakes up early to be at work a 9am (or earlier) and that being alive in the morning is a perfectly NORMAL and DO-ABLE phenomenon. However, I have the tendency to work until, like, 4 or 5 in the morning, which makes a 9am work-time the next day to be, simply, impossible at this age! I would really like to shift my schedule back to something a bit more … diurnal, rather than nocturnal. So I decided to follow my own oft-given advice: MAKE A LIST. I am posting up my proposed schedule for tomorrow. It’s not too crazy. It’s just a start! Baby steps! Cross your fingers for me!!! I’ll probably be updating my progress on this to-do list on Twitter. I have to start by NOT going to bed at 5am tonight!

Fun Stuff Round Up!

Today’s Round Up is thanks to a friendly tweet! She showed me this link, and I was sooo delighted because the only place I’d seen this stuff before was in London, and I never knew where else you could buy it! Now I can go crazy!! Except I’m trying to not spend money right now, so posting it up will have to do instead. So all this stuff is from Pylones USA. 1. Soap Dispenser 2. Chopsticks (I already have two pairs of these in an ivory color and they are AWESOME!!! I’ve had them for years.) 3. 7 in 1 pencil 4. Sugar Shaker 5. Hot Dog Pen (Food pens bring me back to highschool. I had all sorts of funky and food-shaped pens to take notes in class! I also had a hypodermic needle pencil that grossed out one of the cool girls named Allison and I loved grossing her out.) 6. Frog Watering Can 7. Elephant Cell Phone Charm 8. Corn Pen This weekend, Hairy and I ate dinner with Oliver & Esther and some of their friends at Radio Africa & Kitchen which was actually really yummy. During the day it’s Coffee Bar, and then I believe it turns into an Ethiopian-ish restaurant only on certain nights. I would suggest going with one other person and splitting all the appetizers for $25 with each other. Tasty and will fill you up! Although the lamb we had was also really good. Before dinner, we popped into Edo Salon for our an art opening for our tattoo artist Holly Ellis who is also an amazing painter. On Saturday, we drove down to Palo Alto to hang out with Manda. We randomly ended up eating at IHOP for dinner, and then caught Confessions of a Shopaholic, and then got donuts at Happy Donut after!!!!! I couldn’t think of a word to describe this adventure, and someone today said, “Sleepover. You guys basically had a sleepover party.” So today, Hairy and I met up with my P.O. Rando and her friend to check out IndieMart. It was SOOOO PACKED in there!!! I came with NO money so I would not be tempted to buy anything. We got there a bit late, and P.O. Rando was hungry, so before Hairy and I went into Indie Mart, we all walked across the street to get a bite to eat, where we randomly ran into Michelle and her friend Antonio. I guess that’s what happens when you actually leave the house! And not just to go to the post office, the yarn store, or PETCO!!! We ate brunch at Eddie’s and then headed back to the mart. Hairy ate a Thai Tea cupcake, and we called it a day. Except, we also ate dinner with my pops down in Redwood City at a super spicy Chinese restaurant which was really yummy. This weekend was so not productive, but I’m getting back in the saddle…starting….NOW! P.S. If anyone has seen or made a cute […]

WIWT – Pinkety Pink Pink Pink

| 2 Comments on WIWT – Pinkety Pink Pink Pink

I didn’t really intend to make a WIWT post. Really I just wanted to show you guys the awesome hair bow I just got from CutieDynamite. I am building up a Fun Stuff Round Up, and I’ll probably mention her again! The tee is JohnnyCupcakes. Today I focused on taking product photos for ShanaLogic.com so I actually ended up wearing all kinds of stuff today….but you’ll have to wait until she puts it all up on her site. My crafty bench doubled as my styling bench today, as I put together little t-shirt/accessory ensembles. I was shocked and appalled to check the viewfinder on my camera to discover that my BELLY POOCH was VERY VISIBLE whilst modeling a white t-shirt. I proceeded to use the wrinkles in the shirt to cover it up. Am I bloated today or what?! Remember to go #1 and #2 before taking pics of yourself….. Today would have been a good day to have an assistant, as he/she could have helped me pick up Bunny’s pile of PUKE she ejected while I was taking photos! Anyway, I am going to look thru and edit the photos now. Hairy will be in some, too 😛

Pop Pop and Away!!!

(click for bigger) Here is an applique hoodie I worked on for a very cool kiddo down in LA. I had a ton of fun doing this! I used 100% wool, washable fabric glue, and hand stitched around everything. I used little beads for the popcorn eyeballs, but if/when I make another one, I think I want to use Swarovskis instead. Next up is Cooking with Hairy: Chawan Mushi! If you want the recipe, check out Hairy’s blog entry. I also have the nutburger recipe for anyone interested. In a Food Processor or Blender Chop Equal Amounts Peanuts, Almonds, Pecans, (Or any nut combo) Sesame Seeds, Pine Nuts, Pumpkin Seeds (Whichever you prefer) The above choices are optional and depend on your tastes Add: Carrots Garlic Cloves Bread Crumbs or Panko Cumin Salt Pepper Coriander Powder (Optional) Mustard Powder (Optional) Paprika (Optional) Fresh Sage (OPtional) Basically any spice/ herb combo you like. While chopping in Food Processor add a small amount of olive oil. This will help things bind. The nuts are oily as well so not too much. When finished you should have a rough paste, not a liquid. Form into, well, burger looking things. On the stove. Heat a small amount of oil on a med-HI flame. Sear both sides until well browned. Drop the heat to a low flame to cook the inside. Or, Place burgers in an oven at 325 for about 5 -10 minute to cook the inside. Viola. [[Sorry, I don’t know how to do the “read more” cuts here on WordPress. If you know, help a sista out!]]

NutBurgers & LovelyLittleDeers

| 3 Comments on NutBurgers & LovelyLittleDeers

Lovely Becky from Lovely Little Deer and I made a crafty swap. I think my goodies to her are still en route to the UK, but she sent me some of her adorable handmade yumyums along with a box full of toys (like an ice cream cooking timer!!). She’s the bestest! Up there is a pic of the cute necklace she made. She posted pics of it a little while ago and I had to have it! Down below are some pics of one of her hair bows. Also last night, Hairy made NUTBURGERS. I’ve never had a nutburger before. He had prepped the nut mixture the night before. I’d have to say, it did not taste like I was eating a handful of nuts. It was really yummy and savory. It was kind of like falafel, except, I hate falafel. He also made a delicious spread for it from yogurt, garlic and some other stuffs. I always encourage him to post his recipes and pics of his foods and manly crafts, but, you know how it goes. We all have a billion ideas for a billion different blogs but manage to post in only one or two! Oh wells. Look out soon for his etsy shop, tho……It will be bursting with handmade manhood. (oh p.s., here’s a plug for the company my brother works for: the t-shirt I am wearing was made on Zazzle.com. My bro got it for me for Xmas! Go make some shirts! And mugs! And stuff!)

In other news, I came home yesterday to find this in the kitchen sink: Hairy/D-I-Guy clearly recommends using BACON TAPE for home projects. And finally, here are your daily Snuggle Pics:

Poop, Barf, Barf, and Flooding

| 8 Comments on Poop, Barf, Barf, and Flooding

Today is one of those days you eat oatmeal. You wake up, and it’s been raining all night long, and you notice that the patio is flooding and that Bunny has pooped inside on the floor because she didn’t want to go for a swim. Then, Bibi barfs, and Hairy cleans it up. Then, Hairy goes outside with a toilet plunger to plunge the patio, and he’s squatting on the patio-umbrella stand and hanging onto the pole while plunging like he’s riding a little tiny sail boat. It makes for a funny picture ,but you don’t take one in case he finds it undignified to squat in his pj pants in a photo. You pick up the poo and clean the floor, and then for some reason, Bunny also barfs, half on the floor, half on the Snoozy, which interestingly already has old barf on it you never knew about. So you clean up the barf (which was really close to the poo), and throw the tainted Snoozy in the wash. This happens after you went to bed at 7am doing all your accounting in order to meet with the accountant for dinner in about 2 hours. Noice: You made your sales goal for 2008. NotSoNoice: You spent more than half of it running your business. Ah well. Yin and Yang. And Stuff. Here’s an old picture of Bunny climbing Hairy.

My Search for a Personal Photog Is Over!

Just kidding. Guy At Kinko’s: You’re Fired. I needed to take a passport-style photo to apply for a Visa, so Hairy popped me into a Kinko’s. I’m going to the mothercountry in April for family bizness. Manda said I look frazzled. I think I look pissed. It’s kind of mug-shot-like, non? There’s a nice, washed-out tone to it that gives it a certain je ne sais quoi along with my strong look of disdain.
