JUJU CHAN – GIVEAWAY!!!

EDIT!!!! THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED!!! THANK YOU!!!

OOOooh I have been waiting to announce this!!

My awesome hair stylist Jules Chan has just launched her first hair care product!

It’s the TEXTURE Powder Styler and you can get some at her website here where she also maintains a fun blog about hair.

Her focus is Asian hair, but her knowledge and hair product covers any kind of hair!

I have known Jules forever. When I finally wanted to chop off my life-long long hair in the late 90s, I had no idea where to get my hair cut. My mom used to cut it for me, or hair salons at the mall, and a few times, I even asked my little brother to do it just for fun! But when I wanted to go short, I knew I had to call in the experts!

I was watching E! channel one day and saw a local hair makeover that took place at Architects & Heroes salon in San Francisco (it no longer exists now). I thought the people who worked there looked really “cool” and could give me some “cool” hair (incidentally, the colorist on the show ended up being my colorist for many years until she moved to the UK!), so I called them up and asked for a stylist who knew a lot about Asian hair. And that’s how I met Jules! She was the first person to ever tell me that I had to use product to get the hair that I wanted. This is a blessing and a curse as now I am a hair product ADDICT!! I have followed her from salon to salon, and now she is the founder and co-owner of her own salon, Dekko, which happens to be walking distance from my house! (Altho we’re moving soon, so that is moot, hehehehe.) Here is a recent article in the SF Examiner about her and the salon!

Anyway, Jules is super awesome and has offered to giveaway TWO bottles of her new product to my blog readers, so we can have TWO winners! It comes in a light formula for light colored or fine hair, and a darker formula for darker hair.

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment in my blog (don’t leave one at Livejournal or Facebook, or else it won’t count!) with your email address and the color and texture of your hair!

To earn an extra chance at winning, either Tweet or re-blog about the giveaway, and post that link in a separate comment here on my blog.

Easy peasy! I’ll select two winners in one week. So you have until Thursday, July 22nd, to enter and spread the word! We’re leaving to drive to San Diego Comic Con that night, so I’ll probably draw around 6pm California Time 🙂

I absolutely could not wait for this product to come out. Since I am rockin’ the bangs these days, my bangs are the first to get oily on my face, although the rest of my hair is not ready to wash (we brightly-colored hair gals shouldn’t be washing our hairz everyday), so now I just sprinkle some of the TEXTURE powder on my hands run it through my bangs, and I have instant de-clumping and de-oiling! Pretty rad!

Jules suggested I use the lighter colored formula since I have pink hair. There is a lot of black in my hair, but the lighter powder still works!

I have bright teal hair! It is fine, and gets greasy quickly and I can’t STAND to not wash it for a day, so the colour fades in a week. 🙁

It is also really short and textured, but can get oily/sticky/icky really quickly, too. 🙁

  • Katie

    says:

I get excessively excited about product! My hair is ridiculously oily, which is unfortunate because it is also very fine. Having to wash it every day means it falls pretty flat. 🙁 It’s light brown with blonde highlights. I would love to try this! My email is doomsday.robot.army@gmail.com. *crosses fingers*

    says:

That’s exciting! My hair is curly-dark brown…soon to be pink…maybe.

  • Piper

    says:

    Hi! I’m Piper! Hi!
I have brown hair it is dark in some places and light in other places, I also have purple tips because in Ukraine purple is a sane color and I am insane, I like irony!!! My hair is thick and kind of wavy…I love you
    Buh Bye

THIS PRODUCT SOUNDS LIKE THE DANDRUFF OF THE GODS!!
I have naturally black hair that looks like a curly lion mane when i wear it down. It defies science by being dry yet oily at the same time. Everyday I straighten it and teasing it to get it huge and 80’s fantastic. I can’t wash it everyday because well….. I’m lazy.

I love products that help me stop doing things people would normally do every day <3

  • Melissa

    says:

DO WANT. I have pretty yucky oily scalp, and my hair looks snazzy after I wash/dry/style it, but by the end of the day, it looks pretty weak and sad. I would love to try something to make my bangs less…meh. My hair is light (dirty blonde) and SUPA thick.

  • kacie

    says:

Im actually super interested in this!

I have dark brown super fine super thin hair. It gets oily so fast (like within an hour). And I drive a scooter so wearing a helmet makes it worse. My hair is so flat and boring every day. It ALWAYS looks greasy and is ALWAY flattened to my head no matter what I do. Product usually doesnt do much and falls flat within an hour as well. People call my hair “baby hair”. SUCKS.

    • I have super coarse HEAVY hair, but not thick, so it lays SUPER FLAT against my stupid skull!! I FEEL YOU!!!

  • Chelsea

    says:

I have blonde medium thickness hair. My hair gets oily really fast. 🙁

  • Alexis

    says:

Ahhh, I totally need this for my bangs! I could get away with only washing my hair a few times a week, but my bangs always start looking nasty after a day or two.

I have dark brown super straight hair. No one has ever managed to get my hair to keep a curl… even after a second perm (the first one fell out in a week) with two bottles of permanent solution, my 7th grade perm fell out.

    • WOW your hair defeated a PERM!!!! That is major!

    • Carrie

      says:

omg! I haven’t anyone else before that had the same problem with curls. My mom tried a perm on me when i was little and it did not hold. Within an hour the perm was flat!

  • Wendy

    says:

Whoa! I just found your blog and this is pretty awesome. I, too, live in SF and have pink and black hair and am Asian! It’d be awesome to win some of Jules’ new product, but I’m going to check out her salon and get a cut from her anyway! 🙂

    • Hi hi!!!! Yes, you should totally check out the salon!!!

  • nel

    says:

    deep burgundy brown since 2003!

my hair is super fine and straight.
it was never able to hold curls and even with product, nothing held. when i slept with curlers, the curls would only hold for an hour or 2, with an iron haha! 15min. MAX

it wasn’t until i started dying my hair that it was able to finally be styled and hold.

but because my hair is soo fine, i can’t grow my hair out. anything longer than shoulder length looks stupid on me because it just looks like too much face to hair ratio. not to mention too much freaking work to blow it out every day to get lots of volume!

    • oooohh yes. Jules was also the one who informed me that dyeing/damaging my hair would make it easier to style!!!!

I super want to grow out my color and get a PERM but I’m afraid of that in-between hair. *shudder*

I have light brown/dirty blonde boob length hair in layers. The texture is jewish fluff and poof. It is dead at the ends like some of my ancestors. 🙁

cool! would love to try this. i have “half-asian” hair so it’s all wonky: half korean (thick, dark, oily)…half caucasian (coarse, wavy) — what a mess! 🙂 right now i have it virgin, which is dark-dark-dark brown.

cheers – i love your site. so cute! i want to eat the cute burgers. =^.^=

my hair is brown and super straight, long, and thick. they always charge me double the price of a regular haircut because i have too much hair…. maybe i should cut it and lose about 5 pounds of weight.no dieting required.lol.

  • Laura

    says:

    SUPER thick and brown. 🙂

  • Candace

    says:

wheee giveaways!! After reading your review, I definitely wanna try this stuff out, giveaway or not! heheh

I have black hair, and I dunno what you’d classify the texture… it’s wavy and so it can look thick/course, but I think that’s just cuz I have a LOT of hair? haha so I’ve been told it’s also on the fine side! haha

  • Ferfachu5000

    says:

Hiya! I’ve fried my hair! At least the front that has been bleached for 15 years… the poor coarse hairs bend and spiral in the wind. Annoying! I definitely could use a hair tamer! <3 you, twinks!!

  • Patricia

    says:

I have (dyed)dark brown hair with pink elements in my bangs and in the ponytail. And I have the same problem in summer with oily bangs… I even thought about getting a new haircut because of that.
Since I live in germany, I don’t know if you want me as a winner (shipping), but I love reading your inspiring blog! thanks for that

  • Lydia

    says:

Blond and thick hair! This would be really cool, because my hair gets greasy quickly!

  • Meescha

    says:

Sense I dye my hair purple, the texture of my hair is quite dry. I wanted to try a LOT of layers too sense my hair so freakishly thick i wanted a break from all that weight >.<

  • Jessica Mehrtens

    says:

I have dark, fine hair. 🙂 My hair could really use some help!

  • Sarah

    says:

My hair is medium texture and the color fluctuates. So, while either would probably work, I think the lighter formula would be best.

And as a professional, I can give you some hair product feedback! 😉

  • Christine

    says:

I have long, black, fine hair with bangs that get greasy fast. This stuff would be so lovely to have!

That looks amazing! I love products.

I have short, dark drown hair that’s super wavy.

  • Nymphetamine

    says:

I have shoulder-length, fine dark hair that lacks any volume no matter if I tease it or use volumising products. If my hair is freshly washed the hair is too smooth to style well and day old hair gets greasy very quickly so I have the same problem. I have flair ups of alopecia which make my hair and eyebrows fall ote which definateley make things more of a pain. I would love big volumous hair like yours but it doesn’t seem too likely at the moment.

    kerrie(dot)tillman(at)gmail(dot)com

    • HI Kerrie,
My hair is naturally very coarse, not thick, super heavy, and lays close to my scalp! I don’t really use voluminizing styling products, as they don’t really work. But my must-have is Bumble & Bumble styling creme. I put a TON of it on my freshly washed hair and blow dry as messily and giant-ly as possible. I also use Sebastian Threads, which is discontinued, to help my teasing stick. I tease after the blow dry with the Bumble & Bumble. And then to make sure the volume doesn’t just fall down, I use a TON of Bed Head Hard Head hair spray, which is the hardest crispiest stuff I’ve found with the strongest hold! I do not have luscious “run your fingers through it” hair, and I don’t know how to style it in a non-messy way. We all sort of have to figure our way around what our natural hair gives us! hehehe

It’s too bad hair extensions are so expensive!

      • Nymphetamine

        says:

Thanks Twinkie, I will get some Bumble & Bumble and Bed Head. Messy is always good as far as hair goes I thik 🙂
