JapanLA’s “Kittens & Ice Cream” 5th Anniversary Art Show & Party!

I am super excited to attend JapanLA‘s 5th Anniversary party and art show! I’m also super excited to be part of it!

Normally, I would’ve made limited edition accessories, but I wanted to try something more along the lines of a “painting” with crochet. Whatever you would call this, I had fun with it!!! I titled it “Sweet ride, bro!” I asked Hairy if I would regret it later, and he said no ….

In case someone asks “WTF is this?!” it’s 3 ice cream scoop-kitty cats sitting in a banana boat, rowing across on an ocean of hot fudge with their pink plastic spoon oars.

So if you are in LA this weekend, June 4, come and see it — and a bunch of other cool art — in person! Part of the proceeds from the art sales will go to “Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue & Support.”

  • Just have to say this is AWESOME!!! I love it, I actually have been trying to design some “crochet art” to hang in my work space. Wish I lived near by so I could go to the show. Plus it is a great cause. 🙂

Okay, I know I always say how much I like your stuff and the things you create (and I mean every comment I leave of course) but this is the coolest EVER! I would so hang this on my wall, I absolutely LOVE it! It reminds me of 70s kitschy wall art which just makes it more awesome. 😀

Aw, I was in the Japan L.A. area this weekend (on Sunday when they were closed though!), I think it looks great! 😀 I also think you need to make more… I want to see a hot dog or a hamburger crochet “painting”!

    • I bought more canvas to make more :). I always stayed away from food with faces, though, cuz everyone does food with faces. But I feel like with “paintings,” the faces are almost a must.

Um, what else can I say besides!! ADORBS!! Like super cute, Twinkie you should definitely do more crochet paintings. Also maybe even do some scarf foodies with FACES!! I never saw a food scarf with a kawaii face on it, I would definitely buy it!! Maybe you should just try it. 😀

    • Yeah in the very beginning, like in 05/06, I was deciding whether or not to put faces on everything, and I decided not to, because EVERYONE was putting faces on their food crochet!

weird, i was there till…i think 10:15ish… then the nightmareish traffic from the stupid hollywood bowl. I didn’t notice you come back. I was giving out hair clips to promote my brand, but the fluffy hello kittys, sweet lolitas and yummy grilled cheese sandwiches were all very distracting. I had a lot of fun, i hope you did too. I meant to ask you if my care package made a safe a arrival to your house?

Girl, you are amazing. I had never heard of crochet wall art before now, but now that I have, I’d love to see more of it. I’ve always liked the fact that your work didn’t have faces on it, but here I think it fits wonderfully and mood and message to the piece. Instead of ice cream scoops on some random banana they’re ice cream cats chillaxin down a fudge river on their awesome new banana split boat!

Hope this sells well and that perhaps there is more to come. 🙂

    • Twinkie Chan

      says:

Aw thanks so much for the supportive comment! As of that night, the piece didn’t sell, but we’ll see what happens!

  • claire

    says:

i’d love to know how you did the wave pattern!! been looking online but all the ones i’ve tried don’t look as good 🙁 still pretty new to crochet so when i see new stitches i have to try them out!! Love the art by the way!x

I really like this. Great idea. I also like the idea of you making some more non wearables, like the coffee cozies. Inspirational and original as always.
