FreeFor24Hrs: Heart Donuts Crochet Pattern (and video!)

EDIT: The Heart Donut pattern is now available in my Etsy shop. Thank you!! <3

But also…now there’s a video tutorial! YAY!

And p.s., it seems like this pattern, out of all my patterns, is getting some comments from people who are having trouble getting the right result. It would seem that a common issue is that people are not reading (3 sc) as “3 sc in the next stitch.” In my abbreviations, I note that anything inside of the parentheses is to be worked in the next stitch, just as (2 sc) is how I denote a regular increase. So please do read through the abbreviations and special stitches before beginning this or any of my projects. Thank you!

I wasn’t planning on putting this on my blog for a FreeFor24Hrs promo, but in light of some bummer personal news today as well as a general state of WTF political affairs,  I thought it would be nice to spread some free love.

Be kind to each other out there. <3

Here’s the link. It will only be available for the next 24 hrs, and then off the pattern goes to my Etsy shop :).

I have tried this pattern like 4 separate times and my brain just does not compute. I either have too many stitches or not enough and it does not look like a heart. I am so disappointed.

Thank you so very much for your generosity! But i also have tried many times to do this and it’s always to many stitches or not enough and it’s not shaping up for me as a heart shape.. I look forward to the video 😀 …. Thank you!

  • Jennifer

    says:

I don’t have 7 stitches left at the end of row 2 – just three left. Please let us know when you get the video done… I’m confused but I’ll wait! <3

    • TwinkieChan

      says:

Hmmm also not really sure what you are referring to with 7 stitches vs 3 sts left. Will try to shoot/edit video asap, altho it is very time consuming, so I can’t promise a date yet.

      • Kay

        says:

On joined round donuts, round 2 starts with 46 stitches but should end with 40 stitches.

The instructions read to do 2 sc, invdec-3, 9 sc (12stitches) (taking away 2 stitches. Then it says to (invdec, 2sc).when we count the stitch per the instructions it comes out to 40 stitches BUT when you consider the dec, it goes 46-8 stitches = 38 stitches, not 40. That was where my confusion came in. It’s a possibility the end count stitch is incorrect.

        • TwinkieChan

          says:

okey dokey, yes, there is a decrease of 8 sts in the round, but don’t forget, there is a (3 sc) in there, which is 3 sc in one stitch, which adds 2 more sts to the stitch count.

          • Kay

            says:

Nvm! I see it now. It wasnt noted to do the 3 sc in one stitch! It just shows 3sc, so I’m assuming we all thought that would be 3 sc in the next 3 stitches

I sent ya a message on FB but u can ignore it. I didn’t read ur reply closely. Sorry!

          • TwinkieChan

            says:

AHHHH I see! I believe it is noted in parentheses (3 sc), which I define in the abbreviations as worked all in one stitch. It is a notation I have seen and also used for many years, but maybe not super standard. I do use it throughout the pattern to note any increases, like (2 sc). Thanks for talking it through with me, though. I never know when there is a booboo in the pattern! Even though I’ve read it and worked it a million times 😛

  • Melissa

    says:

I love your designs! Had a super crappy stressful day at work, came home and saw your video tutorial post on Facebook and was instantly happier! I totally forgot that I got this while it was free…gonna sit down and make me a donut!

  • anna

    says:

Nice pattern, i always remember my first attempt at crochet, My plan was to make a circular blanket and in the end was used to cover the budgie cage, maybe it is better to start with something small and sweet…

    • TwinkieChan

      says:

I think I just started making very small “blankets” that ended up just covering the tops of dressers 😛
