Free Crochet Pattern: Rainbow Tart Candy (Smarties) Scarf

SmartiesInsta

I’m excited to have a new free pattern for you! It’s a part of Cut Out & Keep‘s Trick Or Treat Trail, and you can find the pattern here. I based my bright color palette on the wrapper graphic, but obviously you can also use pastel colors to represent the actual candies.

When I posted a teaser on Instagram a few weeks ago, I was inundated with comments about how this candy is called something different in different countries. In America, these are called Smarties, in other countries they can be called Rockets or Fizzers. Here’s one website that talks about it, and also a Wikipedia entry.

Anyway! Have super fun making your candy scarves! It is a pretty easy project for a beginner and a great way to bust that rainbow stash!

To me Smarties are the sugar coated chocolates. I had them when I was a kid. However, there was another chocolate at that time which I liked more than the Smarties. This other chocolate was also in the form of sugar coated disks and sold in a cylindrical container but I had forgotten what its called. M & M?
Rowntree sold gummie disks which I also liked.

Smarties were one of my favorite Halloween treat candies. I also used to buy them from the store the car repair garage ran out in the country where I grew up. We kids
would take a nickle and get penny candy and comic books. That was a LOT for so
small amount then. I think the company that makes Smarties is now run by three
granddaughters of the original owner. I saw an article about them about a week ago and I’m pretty sure they are the US manufacturer. I can look up a link and post it here if it’s okay with Twinkie.
