I Eat Yucky Stuff: My Dad’s 60th Birthday Banquet of Supreme Royal Yuckyness

Some of you may recall that I used to maintain my side blog I Eat Yucky Stuff. I was never able to keep it up very regularly, but I reeeally neglected it for a long time. It was funny to get rung up at Whole Foods and have the cashier person say, “Hey, don’t you write about eating yucky food?” I never thought I would get recognized for that first before crocheting cute accessories.

When I started the blog, I hosted it on Uber.com, which no longer exists. Uber was very nice and often highlighted my sillyness on the homepage. Β I was bummed when they folded. Tumblr had just started existing, but I was kind of confounded by it and opted to start Yucky Stuff up on Blogspot. I never really spent the time importing all the old Uber entries, so I’m missing some old gems like that one time we…….. tried eating dog food to compare a high quality kibble to a low quality kibble when we first got Bibi….. we’re the best doggie parents ever! And yes, there was a gigantic flavor difference! Lame kibble tastes bland like crackers. Good kibble tastes REALLY REALLY BAD!!!!!

Anyway, my dad turned 60 this month, and he threw a big Chinese banquet to celebrate. He hinted big time that I should blog about it on Yucky Stuff. So I did.

This one is definitely NSFV: Not Safe For Vegans/Vegetarians. So don’t even think about it.

In other Yucky Stuff news, I was a guest on Hairy’s radio show on Breakthru Radio a little while back. Listen to it and find out which song I request! I haven’t listened to to the show yet because I’m afraid of what I ended up saying….Okay, I’m listening to a little bit right now. Β Anyway, “DJ Hanabi” on Breakthru Radio is one name for two people, Hairy and his buddy. If it’s confusing, ask them!

Yucky Chan – out!

being a super “white girl” myself I’ve been exposed to quite some interesting things after marrying into a Filipino family….however I don’t think anything has come close to your geoduck!

oh i figured it out! the pic is of goose feet! I reread it. You can actually eat goose feet? who knew!

  • Danielle

Haha, your dad is kind of awesome, between planning a dinner with your blog in mind, and wanting Ghostbuster-inspired feet signs. Wow though, I think I’d be steering clear of pretty much all of that… especially the chicken head plate. Well no, especially everything I guess. I might eat the tapioca, that’s most likely it. Bravo to you, brave lady!

πŸ˜› Yes, growing up in a Chinese household, you definitely grow up eating some weird stuff!!

GEoduck is so terrifying but so delicious!!!!! I am glad it looks nothing like its natural state when served to you! πŸ˜› xoxo

I don’t understand people who get squicked out by unusual looking foods! Unless it looks like brains or actual poop, I don’t see what the big deal is! I loved your Yucky Stuff blog so I’m glad you’re writing in it again πŸ™‚

Some people don’t even like mushrooms or blue cheese…..so…….. I can see how “weird” foods would gross people out.

There is also the whole matter of eating meat and animal cruelty etc etc that makes me hesitate to post food-related things, as I have been chastised before for not being vegetarian even though I’m “nice” !

      • Cara

        says:

Ohhh that’s so annoying! I respect vegetarians and vegans but after a failed attempt at going vegetarian I’m a meat eater again. It’s no one’s business really what we eat, I wish people weren’t so judgmental about it! Well I loved your post and hope people don’t freak out too much!!!

  • OMG! you are a total rock star! It all looked good…I cant make up in my mind how much meat would actually be on the feet but nothing scary – and I LOVED your sign lol! The deserts looked amazing! Im all about trying new things – in any venue! Thanks for sharing!!! OX

    • TwinkieChan

      says:

Yeah, there is not really MEAT on a foot hehehehe. IT’s more about……. the skin, I think, and it soaks up the flavor the sauce : /

  • Bahahahah Twinkie I am dying of laughter over here! Mostly because I’m Chinese soooo none of the items in your post particularly surprised me. More like “hey I haven’t seen that in a while!” To be honest, I didn’t try all of them (the feet always weirded me out a little too much)… and I actually didn’t know what geoduck looked like as an actual creature (never thought about it before) until this post. So thanks for that! Hahaha.

Please keep eating yucky stuff and writing about it!

Geoduck is hideous, but I actually really love it. Feet on the other hand… I’ll eat them to be a good sport, but I would never order them!!!

The giant peach dumpling filled with sweet lotus paste is one what I refer to “crack paste”. I can eat a gallon of the stuff along a gallon of sweet bean crack.. I mean paste.
