Since I was obsessed with finishing my crochet book, my blog-life sort of took a back seat. I never showed you guys some snippets from my birthday back in August! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw most of these already, but I figured I’d write a good ol’ blog entry for them.
First up, my brother and I usually have a shared bbq at my parents’ house, since he’s a late-July baby and I’m an early-August baby. Guapo visited from San Diego for the weekend and also hooked us up with a giant chocolate donut from Bob’s.
The following weekend, Manda and I went to Santa Cruz to stay with Renee at her new place. As is typical for the three of us, we ended up doing a lot of sitting around, watching bad TV (we watched the TV series Salem and also rented The Duff), and EATINGGGG. This is what Renee’s counter looked like on the first night.
The next day, we wandered a bit around downtown Santa Cruz for lunch, bought this giant Rice Krispy Treat, got milkshakes at the Penny Ice Creamery, and then came home and ate some more.
On that Sunday morning, I woke up and went to the bathroom and saw this lovely little note.
We took these donuts and some other snacks to hang out at the beach. I really like the IDEA of hanging out at the beach, then you go and it’s super hot, and your skin is burning, and there’s sand everywhere… I dunno. I’ll keep trying, but, I’m not going to ever pretend that I’m an outdoors type.
This is what I wore (except, I actually wore white sandals to the beach… and put on regular shoes for the drive home) because I haven’t worn a bathing suit since … I literally cannot even remember. And yes, I brought crocheting along, too.
Here’s one last fun tidbit. Renee and I used to be roommates over 10 years ago. At some point during that time, Manda lived with us, too. Somewhere in there, I made this weird 3-eyed duck(?) plushie for one of Renee’s presents. It was funny to see it again, and to have it watching me at night… I do not even understand this present, because it’s not like Renee makes a big deal about ducks being her favorite animal or anything. It’s just the ultimate in random.
Overall, my birthday was very mellow and old-people style, but I got to see most of my favorite people, so that is what’s most important!
I turn 4o next year, and I feel the pressure to plan something super exciting, or, at least, super different! Do you plan anything crazy for landmark birthdays?
