My cupcake scarf pattern is free in Knitsy: Issue 4!

Knitsy  Issue 4 (for iPad and iPhone and soon Google Android) is out, and guess who is on the cover? I had no idea. It was a big  surprise! This time, instead of an interview like I had in Issue 3, we are offering a crochet pattern for my cupcake scarf. If you already have my book, this pattern will be old news, but if you’ve been jonesing for the cupcake scarf and the cupcake scarf only, here’s your chance to check it out for free! The one thing I totally forgot to add in the pattern is that Lion Brand Homespun in Cotton Candy Pink has been discontinued since my book was published. There are other Homespun colors, but the substitute I have been using myself is Cascade 128 Merino Superwash because it is a similar weight and comes in a yummy array of colors. It is, however, a bit spendy, running on average at $12.50 per hank. It’s a great option for people who like nice yarn and who like wool without the wool being itchy. I recently picked up a ball of Red Heart Snuggle Bunny in Kitten, but I haven’t worked with it yet. I just grabbed it because of the color and because if its boucle-ness! There’s TONS of other fun fibery goodness in Knitsy, so check it out!

Two lil’ cupcakes for two lil’ cupcakes.

| 13 Comments on Two lil’ cupcakes for two lil’ cupcakes.

I popped out two of these little guys in a little over 24 hours. My parents are visiting family, so my mom asked me to make two cupcake scarves for two of my little girl cousins (my cousins’ kids… 1st cousins? I have no idea) before she left for her trip. I made each scarf 10 cupcakes long (vs. 16-17 cupcakes long which is the usual length for an adult scarf). Kelly-Anne graciously helped me out with finding a good scarf length for a 3 year old, since she has one! They turned out super small and cute!

Product Preview: Soft Serve Scarf!!

| 21 Comments on Product Preview: Soft Serve Scarf!!

I’ve been wanting to do another ice cream scarf for some time (I did one years ago), but just never got around to it. I wanted to refine the cone, and I wanted to make sure that my ice cream scarf didn’t look too much like my cupcake scarf!! Also a little birdie once wrote me a letter covered in cute little sketches of things. One sketch was of soft serve scarf. It looked like vanilla with rainbow sprinkles. I’d been thinking for a while about how to do it, and I finally settled on a plan. I got a great yarn from ImagiKnit. I believe the brand is Twinkle. It’s super duper chunky, fluffy, soft and luscious. It’s truly delicious! I bought it in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. This stuff is $20 a hank! I probably won’t keep using this yarn, but it was nice to work with on this initial scarf. The cone is good ol’ Vanna yarn. I like working with Vanna a lot, and there are a ton of colors (not great pink or yellow, tho!). I ran into the problem of the cone curling a bit. I seem to have this problem when I work in sc. I haven’t discovered or read about any ways of curing the curl, so I think for my next version, I will work in a wool for the cone so I can try to block it and stop the curling. As you can see, this scarf is HUGE!! It’s too big for my taste. Not only is it big, but it’s also rather dense, eventho the chunky yarn is worked in dc, so it’s super heavy, and when you wrap it around your neck, it feels like a neck brace!!! So next time: smaller pattern, looser work on the ice cream so it’s not so dense, and wool yarn for cone. I also want to do all vanilla ice cream, with rainbow colored party cones! I like how there is space across the top of the cone to stitch out words if I want, like people’s names! I really want to make another version right away, but I have other pressing craft-fair projects to complete!!

Cupcakes for Cousins

| 2 Comments on Cupcakes for Cousins

This is the cupcake scarf I whipped up this week for my cousin in Hong Kong: It’ll probably get cut off at twinkiechan.com. I’m trying to figure out how to link Flickr to Word Press so I can just upload these to Flickr and post them here. I think I got Flickr and Word Press to talk to each other, but all I ended up posting was a “

(21 sts)” CUPCAKE HAT Page 30: “Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you have 42 rows” should read “Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you have 48 rows” in order to match the reference to Row 48 in the next sentence. Page 30: The paragraph after Row 3 at the top of the page could use some extra explanation. Note my addition in bold. “Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you have 48 rows (or until the long edge reaches your desired unstretched hat circumference. At this point, your piece should look like a parallelogram with angled sides, not a straight rectangle. This angle is what creates the nice swirl effect when your hat is fully assembled. After Row 48, break off and leave 16 inches ……” GREEN SALAD SCARF Page 36: EGG SLICES “With yellow, ch 4 and join to first SC” should read “With yellow, ch 4 and join to first ch.” BABY RADISH LARIAT SCARF Page 43: In the instructions for the Regular Size leaf, go to the top right paragraph.
