Taking Inventory (metaphorically…)

I just took this photo five minutes ago. My craft room has been a hot mess since the beginning of December. I mean, it could be worse, but for me, this is pretty bad. I also left out the part where there are now a bunch of boxes in the dining room, too…

I really do not like the site of cardboard boxes. The plastic bags don’t help either. The big problem is that I have all this stuff, but there’s nowhere to put it. This frustration sends my anxiety through the roof, and then I just have to walk away and re-focus my energy on the projects and deadlines I have in the meantime.

I basically closed my Etsy shop this month to help me catch up, and while it has definitely helped, I still feel behind and in a frenzy. This constant, mentally-manic feeling has made me re-think a lot of things about my business and how to make everything run as smoothly and smartly as possible.

But while I’m thinking about that, I’ve always been curious: what drew you to my blog? What keeps you reading here? Are you only here to see crochet-related posts? Are you un-interested in crochet and just more interested in random life-style stuff? Are you only here for Bibi?

Lemme know! While I’ve always stressed the importance to me of blogging for me, I’m definitely interested in how I can blog for you! Let’s clean this place up! (metaphorically… I have to deliver a project by Tuesday, write a new pattern by the end of the month, Β draw some new graphics for another top secret collab, and crochet a scarf sample for a different top secret collab…)

So, I started by buying your book so that I could crochet a scarf that I saw advertised in Shojo Beat. Then I saw that you had a website that had more stuff you made. That led to reading your old blog, and now this blog. I really enjoy reading about the things that you create, and all of the reasons that lead up to the creation. It is all related for me, and it helps me to create my own things instead of just completely copying patterns. My reading your blog is similar to my reading Tim Gunn’s Fashion Bible: inspirational.

I found your blog years ago when I was looking at the red velvet blog & there was a picture of your delicious booth! I thought to myself “holy shit! there’s a super colorful girl who has fun making awesome stuff that makes people happy!” then I saw your blog and have read it ever since. I love that you love your dogs, color, food, (yucky stuff too!), tattoos, cute shit, crazy shit, all the other stuff you post! my sister gave me your crochet book as a gift because she knew I liked your style and I have taught myself to crochet from your book! I am also a glass artist (like another gal who posted-which is awesome!) and I know the highs and lows of self employment and motivation! you inspire me (and many others I’m sure) by your humor, productivity, attitude, and willingness to share yourself! I hope you find whatever it is you need to recharge yourself! You are an amazingly creative person!

  • Ok, I’ll be the oddball here and admit that I started following…. your hair, haha! YEARS ago I came across a few posts you had made in a livejournal group called “pinkhair”. Yes, that’s how long it has been! (And I am totally dating myself here, but oh well!) As a fellow pink haired gal, I fell in love with your style, and after visiting your LJ, found out that-Wow! She’s got a great personality, too! πŸ™‚ Finding out you were an artiste just sweetened the pot, haha! Seriously, though, I love your blog because of it’s blend of crafts, style, Bibi, and randomness. Not many people will blog about their eyebrow tattooing woes, their not-quite-like-Martha baking attempts, or dog farts. It’s the little things that make your blog “real”, refreshing, and therefore a standout from the rest. Thank you for the smiles you instill and the inspiration you continue to give…. much love!

I’ve been a huge fan of your blog since your Ebay days. Back when Etsy didn’t exist and I craved handmade goods, I somehow stumbled across your Ebay shop and fell in love with your creations. Back then, I was also a poor student but still followed all your work through LJ (which I think I found through Shrinkle?). Years have past and I still find your colourful work to be so inspiring! I don’t often leave a comment here, but I love just knowing what you’re up to (in a not creepy way, I promise)! Your work has evolved so much since I first found your Ebay shop and I love getting to know the artist behind the candy-coloured creations. You could probably write reviews about McDonald’s toys and I’d still read haha πŸ™‚

    A friend linked me your blog when she and I both started getting into knitting and crocheting a few months ago. I read post after post until I had finally made it almost 100 pages back to posts that were, like, three years old… I love reading about your exploits and seeing pics of your yarn and projects and outfits… It’s just a fun blog in general (: Plus, you remind me a lot of my bestie, who also has a massive thing for cupcakes and is planning on spending part of her tax return on a cupcake tattoo. She, however, doesn’t blog, which is where you come in! (;

  • I became a fan back in your ebay days – when I was selling on ebay to. I fell in love with your scarves – the colors the edgy the funness – you could tell that whoever made them had a kick ass personality. So I I would read everything I could about you. I think the refergerator days were good but this format is much easier for me – I just think you and your life are awesome and it’s mad fun to watch you living your fabulous life. Its a joy getting to go along with you to craft shows and seeing your creative mind in process and then the end result. You are crazy inspiring and I can’t wait to get here to see what you’re talking about next. I have crocheted my entire life but with my biz I almost never have time – so it’s not so much about that – its just about the energy that surrounds you. xoxo

I’ve been a fan of your crochet for a while. I even got you to sign my copy of your book a few years ago at Seattle’s Urban Craft Uprising–I was totally craft fan-girling. I read your blog not just because you are a crafty inspiration, but because you seem like a rad person with a great sense of humor.

  • i love the colorful photos, i love seeing a company grow and the process that goes into it. I love seeing how a artist or individual with a business gets through a week or a day.

I like reading your blog for crochet stuff, but mostly I like a peek into your every day life, outfits, Bibi and other shenanigans.

I love it all. Mostly I love living vicariously through you. You make crochet fun and silly. I loved your crocheted lipstick. You have super-duper cute puppy. You have a fantastic sense of style ( I’m still jealous of your alf phone). You’re living the dream of doing what you love, you let all the rest of us know it’s possible. You’re such an inspiration.

I say keep up the good work Twinkie your an inspiration!! I love to see your cute outfit posts and always find bibi entertaining. Your crafting skills are amazing and you deserve lots of success in your business and life.

I love it all! I love seeing your perspective on things and just how life goes for you! I was initially drawn to your blog to see if you gave tips on crochet, but I continue to come back, because you are interesting. You also inspire in that you are a business woman who is doing what she wants to with her life, even though it’s new terrain and scary! I must say though, Bibi is a big reason too! Such a cutie!! I hope this helps in your ventures!

  • I don’t care WHAT you write about. I just like “hearing” your voice.

I don’t know how I came to read your blog,… but I will stay πŸ˜‰
Your work and your life are so inspireing! And I love your “office”. I want a room like that too!

  • I’m quite new to knitting, literally bought my first needles last week. Looking at your work makes me want to learn even more, very inspiring in deed! Wish you a creative 2013 πŸ™‚

  • I honestly don’t remember how I found this site… maybe through blog-hopping or Pinterest? Sorry, my memory went the way of the do-do (right along with my figure) when I had my baby girl last November… ha!

What keeps me reading? Everything! I love your style, your humor, your positive attitude, all the colors, everything so bright and cheerful! It’s a breath of fresh air πŸ™‚

That being said, if you ever posted about “serious” stuff, it would NOT be a turn-off. Life isn’t always candy-coated and it helps to share the not-so-nice stuff too… and I have found many wonderful souls in Teh Interwebz that offer empathy and compassion when it’s needed the most. Isn’t that lovely? πŸ™‚

I just started crocheting a month or so ago and I’m blown away by your talent so I really enjoy those posts. But I’d be happy to see ANYTHING you share … that’s the beauty of blogging… LET LOOSE!

Thanks for a great site and I can’t wait to see more! I look forward to seeing new posts from you in my feed… HOORAY!

    xoxo
