Get on the hot new trend!!!! CROCHET LIPSTICK.

| 26 Comments on Get on the hot new trend!!!! CROCHET LIPSTICK.

Okay, so I’m still crocheting samples for new Yummy You product, and I had this pink oval that didn’t turn out to be the shape I wanted it to be. Sometimes it’s hard to remember how Point A gets to Point B, but let’s just say, I happened upon a genius new crafty/cosmetics fad! Just kidding. I thought it was hilarious and disturbing.

BURGER COOK OFF! (NSFV) not safe for veggie/vegans

| 9 Comments on BURGER COOK OFF! (NSFV) not safe for veggie/vegans

A few years ago, my brother and his wife thought of this idea to have a joint birthday bbq at my parents’ house since we are both summer babies. One year we had a burger cook off, and I was too lazy to edit the video, and now I have no idea where those files are. The photo above is my brother and me, in the super hero capes that Manda made for us. We are all very special people. Anyhoo, we organized the burger cook off again this year. I didn’t invite my veggie/vegan friends, because they are nice people and would offer to come anyway probably, but I just wouldn’t want to torture them with the celebration of meats that would ensue. I made the score sheets and prize ribbons the night before at like 3am. It’s helpful to have lots of craft supplies available at home at all times! Root for your favorite contender and see who wins! p.s. it’s not my birthday until August 6th. I’ll be 35! oh p.p.s. The use of “Rush” for the music came about because we were watching Adventures of Power, which is a really funny movie about a dude who loves air drumming.

Dublin Part 3: Hairy Drives on the Wrong Side of the Road.

| 16 Comments on Dublin Part 3: Hairy Drives on the Wrong Side of the Road.

I’ll be honest. When Hairy said he wanted to take a side trip to Dublin during our London trip, I was like, “…..WHY!?” He said, “Because it’s beautiful!” Then, when we got to Dublin, and it looked like a lot of other European cities (like Copenhagen), I was bummed. I’d been brought to Ireland under false pretenses! Where was all the greenery? Where was the nature? Where were the sweeping Emerald hills? I complained about this a lot the first day, and then on the second day, Hairy rented a car so we could drive an hour of town to check out Wicklow, which was supposed to be really beautiful. Unfortch, we got the car around 3-4pm, so by the time we got to the outskirts of Wicklow, it was already getting dark, but at least we got out of the city a little bit, saw the ocean and some sheep, drove into some dirt piles, and drove on the wrong side of the road for the first time. We had also seen these giant prehistoric bugs emerge out of a hole in the soil, and I thought I’d gotten video of me freaking out about it, but I guess in my terror, I hadn’t really been recording. Oh wellz! Here’s some video of Dublin via car, as well as documentation of Hairy’s driving escapades.

Dublin Part 2: The Leprechaun Museum!

| 15 Comments on Dublin Part 2: The Leprechaun Museum!

So when we bumped into Roisin on the street, she suggested we go to the Leprechaun Museum. Hairy and I had seen signs for this all over town, but I kinda rolled my eyes. On our Boston trip last year, he dragged me to the Salem Witch Museum, and, no offense Salem, it kinda blew. So there was no way I was gonna go to the Leprechaun Museum!! However, upon Roisin’s recommendation, I agreed to give it a go, plus we dragged my cousin Victor along, too! (He insisted we all get a drink first, though…which we did.) Let the journey begin! So we actually didn’t see very many representations of leprechauns in the museum. The first room has books and pictures in it, and a dude gives you a little intro. The rest of the place is like an interactive journey through storytelling. Each room is supposed to represent something, which I forget now, like an abstract forest, a cavern, a fairy hill, a rainbow, stuff like that. Except the cavern is like this wooden structure, and the rainbow is made out of stringy tassels. The best part, tho, was the Giant’s Room. All the furniture is really big, as if you were the leprechaun. So you get to climb all over giant chairs and stuff. I tried to get up on the chair, but I was wearing a dress. I didn’t make it. I ended up giving myself a giant bruise! Photos first. Video at the bottom.

Quality Control Session: Mini Cake Hair Clip

| 31 Comments on Quality Control Session: Mini Cake Hair Clip

So I’ve been working on these mini cake hair clips, right? I always have a difficult time choosing between the alligator clip and the french clip. I think the alligator clips are easier on the hair and easier to put on and take off, but I also think the french clip provides more stability for a 3D piece, and that’s why I use the french clips on the ice cream hair clips. I’m still trying to decide what to use on the mini cakes. I am thinking I might let people choose and just attach-to-order, although I’m still leaning strongly toward the french clip to avoid any wobbling. At first I had the alligator clip on it, and I wasn’t a fan of the resulting wobbliness. Then I tried to rip off the alligator clip. That didn’t work very well. I kind of had to cut it off, and then use the glue and the new french clip to “mend” the slices I’d made through the crochet! Here’s me testing out the french clip. Check out the rigorous dedication I have for bringing you quality product. 🙂

Soooo I think putting together actual, organized, chronological blog entries about my book events in Seattle and Portland last November/December is just too overwhelming of a task right now, so I will share short, unorganized, bursty nuggets of traveling fun with you instead! This first bursty nugget is a compilation of sped-up video clips of me eating cupcakes baked by the lovely Miss Cuppy. She ever so graciously baked us 9 chocolate cuppies, and we had to eat them all before getting on the plane in 2-3 days. Tough job, right!??! I am actually a huge cupcake snob. The cake needs to be tasty and moist, and the frosting needs to be light and fluffy and not to sweet. I often find myself wiping off most of the frosting on a cupcake so I can just get at the less offensive cake part. But trust me, Cuppy’s cupcakes are 100% thoroughly DELISH!!! And I’m not just saying that cuz she’s my pal, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered to blog about it. Them thingz are GOOOOOOD!!! Oh I’m dreaming about them now….. I’m sad I didn’t capture all 9 cupcakes getting eaten, but sometimes Hairy refused to be filmed whilst eating, and I think there were times we shoved them in our mouths real fast and ran out of the hotel room! Just to round out the Cuppy and Moofs Seattle adventure: we all walked into Elliott Bay books to get Cuppy a copy of my book, and as we were walking around with the book, one of the store employees asked if it was Cuppy on the cover of the book. TOO FUNNY! It’s true, that day, Cuppy’s hair probably matched the cover more than mine did. I don’t know why I look so worried in that photo! HAHA. This is the only photo we took on that trip. We suck. Next time: MORE! Anyhoo, my other favorite memory with Cuppy on that trip is when we were walking around Urban Craft Uprising after my book signing, and we were shopping, and it was SO FREAKING HOT inside the venue, we were sweating bullets! We shared girl talk about our sweaty, stinky armpits. Then, while I was browsing around some cute jewelry booth, I FREAKED OUT!!! I was like, “CUPPY!! THE WORST THING THAT COULD EVER HAPPEN JUST HAPPENED!!!!!!!!” While shopping, I’d shoved a brown paper bag under my arm so I could have extra grabby hands, and when I removed the paper bag…it had a nasty SWEAT MARK ON IT!! AHHHHH!! Also I had fried pickles for the first time.

Check out my Home Shopping Video!!!

| 14 Comments on Check out my Home Shopping Video!!!

Okay. So, my buddy Maddy missed out on my earlier Valentine’s Day Etsy update, and she was like, “Boodyhoo!” and I was like, “I will make u a home shopping video!” So I did. Be prepared for some dorkiness. Also I didn’t script it or anything, so when I’m trying to have a conversation with myself, it sometimes has stuff left out or makes no sense because I forgot about what I was supposed to say. Anyway, I thought you might get a laugh out of some of it!!

Onch’s “Eat it all!” Launch Party

| 47 Comments on Onch’s “Eat it all!” Launch Party

So last week, Hairy and I darted down to L.A. to celebrate Onch’s launch party at House of Petro Zillia, a super adorable boutique! Onch and I collabed on some cute hair pieces. I snapped photos of our hair bows, but I finished and shipped the rainbow pretzel head bands so quickly that I never got a photo of them. You can catch them in my video below though! The event was cute, sweet, and delicious, filled with candy for your eyes and your tummy! As always, I decided to make an outfit at the last minute. I was going to make a top and then wear a floofy skirt or bloomers on the bottom, but Manda insisted on making me something, so I put her to work making me a giant pink princess tutu!!! We stayed up all night and then napped for a few hours in the late morning. Unfortch, due to the extra last minute nature of this project, I never really put everything on until right before the party….and everything was a little bit big!! I was kind of like this sad saggy melting ice cream monster! HAHA Oh well. Now I need figure out how to repurpose the banana split into another project, because the tank top just reeeeally wasn’t working! Bebe, Laura/Pretty Star Clothing, Jessie Jae Joplin (I stole the pic from her awesome array of photos), me, and Chrissa. Me and Twinkle. How cute is she? I also stole this pic from her. Me and Michelle. Sometimes I wrinkle my nose when I hear something funny. This is not an attractive habit. Here’s Bebe, Laura, and me again! Me and Onch. I didn’t want to bother him while he whirled his magic around the place all night, so I finally caught him on our way out! Here’s us sitting next to our collab! CAANDY!!!!!!!!!!!! (not pictured was the pile of Twinkies and HoHo’s and DingDongs and stuff!) Here’s my lil video! Sorry about the crap quality! Here’s some progress pics and closeups of the hair bows! I really loved working with these saturated candy colors. Look out for more candy craziness in my Etsy shop soon!

You can’t defeat the unicorn.

| 27 Comments on You can’t defeat the unicorn.

Yes, we played badminton for Hairy’s birthday. Yes, I wore the rompicorn. Watch the video for all of us in action! Me not so much since I took most the video! After playing badminton, we had a snack at Jack in the Box (shame!) and the had a yummy dinner with more friends at a Korean bbq place, grabbed milk tea and egg puffs for dessert, and then went home and watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, one of Hairy’s bday prezzies from me. Excellent day!!! I am so super sore now! Unicorn needs the Bengay.

Twinkie Chan on TV!

| 51 Comments on Twinkie Chan on TV!

On Xmas Eve, my local NBC News station aired a little segment about me and my work! It was pretty cool to watch it with my parents and my bestie! Manda took a video on her iPhone of all of us watching it for the first time. I hope she posts that so I can show you. You get to hear me shout about stuff like how crooked my teeth are on a giant flat screen HDTV! I was really excited to be contacted by a local producer, who at first just asked if I had scarves to sell her! Next thing I knew, I was furiously hanging prints in my house and trying to make the place look okay for her and the camera man/interviewer to film me in my environment! They were here for about 2 hours, and Manda helped dog-sit! This is pretty much the first time someone else has filmed me talking and is the first time I’ve seen myself on TV. I have avoided being on TV before because I was too scared…I coulda been on DIY Network a few years back! Yes, I’m a total girl and totally mortified and completely focusing on all my physical flaws and all the weird ways I say things when a camera is pointed at me! But it’s still pretty cool, so I’ll share it with you guys! 😛

Book Promo Video!

So my dad got me an HD digital camcorder for my bday (yay!) and I have no idea how to use it (boo!) or edit video properly (double boo!), so I’m not there yet on video quality, but I think this video is a fun answer to “HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A CUPCAKE SCARF?” plus it shows a nice preview of the projects you can make from my book! Now I gotta actually go and build a more informative and detailed website for the book. Don’t forget I also have a project in Jenny Harada’s “ME MAKE MONSTER”. Or at least, I think I do. I haven’t seen a copy yet. I’m gonna go put that in my shopping cart, too!

Sweet Streets 2 & 6%DOKIDOKI show!

| 28 Comments on Sweet Streets 2 & 628DOKIDOKI show!

So I finally got my grubby hands on videos and photos from the Pooltradeshow…but first, I will show you what Hairy and I were up to in L.A. last weekend: Sweet Streets 2!! I was going to collab with Manda on a fashion project for the show, but due to complications, we unfortunately decided to pull out. I still wanted to see the show, though, because so many of my friends were involved and attending and I wanted to meet and see everybody! I get very awkward about using my camera and asking for photos with people, so I never have all the photos I wish that I had, but here is a little peek! Here’s me about to leave the motel for the show. We stayed at the Super 8 in Hollywood for the first time…… and although it is right next to a Walgreen’s (convenience!), I did feel like I might get a disease from the bed… I made the ice cream hair baubles the night before we left. I love how they turned out! I definitely plan to make them for my Etsy shop in different sizes and flavors after I finish this one big secret project I have lined up! Me and Yume Ninja! She made her most awesome Gothicorn outfit!!!! I didn’t get a shot of her shoes but WOW. She also had two amazing pieces in the show! So talented! Here’s me and San!! She’s an awesome illustrator from Atlanta and she was chosen to be a model in the 6%DOKIDOKI show. She’s so cute! I treated myself to some 6%DOKIDOKI goodies and ran into Vani, one of the shopgirls, and asked if I could take my picture with her. I like this photo cuz you can see Steph and Candyspooky making faces behind us! I had no idea they were there until I looked at the photos on my camera! Oooh I just stole this pic from Locketship! It’s the very first photo of all members of the Big Headed Asians club! Who has the biggest head!!?!? Here’s the view inside Gallery Nucleus from upstairs: Here’s the giant crowd of people waiting for the 6%DOKIDOKI fashion show to start! Prepare for the most amazingly fun and cute fashion show you will ever witness!!!! WOW, right!?! I sat on the floor in the front row next to Maria Locketship and our feet were going numb! Could you see the back of our big heads in some of the video? There was no place to move since it was so packed! It was also really super duper hot inside, so Hairy and I stepped out after the show, wandered to find some bubble tea and deoderant (for stinky me), and after hanging outside the gallery for a little bit more, I shopped inside with Nellie, and then we went to eat food! The art from the show is up on the gallery website, so Check it out here and buy some arts! I have never […]

Comic Con!! Bear Love!!

| 24 Comments on Comic Con!! Bear Love!!

This is Lady GoodForYou and me. This is at a Denny’s in San Diego at about 2 or 3 in the morning. We know how to party. She made this animated gif. I take no responsibility for it! I DO take responsibility for this video I am about to post. I look like an ogre and K looks like a cute little woodland creature. I do not look good in head coverings, and I’m hiding two big bows and 3 ponytails under there! Lady GoodForYou and I had planned to wear matching Rilakkuma outfits for the one day we met up in San Diego (she lives in Hawaii). On that day, I felt kind of sick and thought I was going to barf. Then I put on my Rilakkuma matching shortyshorts and felt too gross and fat to wear shorts in public. I txtd her and told her that I would not be showing up 40% naked. Besides, it was real hot inside the convention center, and I couldn’t wear the hoodie all day anyway or else my armpits would explode. So we both ditched the shorts. Okay, enough talk!! Let’s get to the video!!!! As for the rest of the conference: I would say that I expected the worst and ended up having an okay time. YES, it is crowded in there. YES it does sometimes smell like farts in there. But Manda, Hairy and I had a good time tooling around and buying some crap, even though none of us read comics at all. We ran into Shrinkle and Kevin, and also Michelle and Yume Ninja and Chloe and probably a bunch of other peeps I can’t recall right now. Good times! We also went to Disneyland the next day, but it was really hot, and I didn’t feel much like taking photos or videos. I know there are some pics on Shrinkle’s camera of the partial meeting of the Big Headed Asians club, but we’ll have to wait for those to surface! Here’s one day at Comic Con through my eyes!

Trapped in a Basement. Be Back in 5.

| 14 Comments on Trapped in a Basement. Be Back in 5.

I got a call from my BFF yesterday to keep her company during her all-nighter sewing costumes for the show she is designing. I packed up my yarn and my laptop and drove down to the Peninsula around 10pm. We got junk food and sat in a musty theater basement until 6 am. I worked on editing photos for the Etsy update, and then I helped her sew some buttons. I realized how much I hate sewing snaps onto things!! SHEESH!! When I decided I had to drive back home, she was still in the shop, sewing away! I hope she had a great opening night!!! Oh, in case you don’t follow me in Twitter, I got my roots done today, and since I didn’t have time to buy more pink hair dye, I just brought in the red that I had at home. It’s funny how different you feel with just a slight change in color. I already miss my pink head!

Mini Adventure on Angel Island

On Saturday, Hairy and I were supposed to meet up with some peeps at Pier 41 to take a ferry to Angel Island for Daniel’s bday. However, me staying up until 6am, and the Embarcadero being very crowded, meant that we missed the ferry that everybody else was on!!! So we just chillaxed around Pier 39 until the next ferry. The island was very cute, but, it was sort of a boon that we missed the ferry cuz I don’t know that I was really up for a ton of hiking. I had also worn the wrong shoes. I think my Marvin the Martian Keds Sneakers from the 90s finally just make my feet 100% uncomfortable!! Good bye, old friends! I should have thrown you away after you made my toes bleed in Copenhagen! After ferrying back to the SF, we all met up at Serpentine for some yummy yummy din dins. Here is a short video snapshot of part of that day! D’s bday: Angel Island, Serpentine from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo.

Hamburglars, Hairbows, and Generally Being a Maniac (video!)

| 58 Comments on Hamburglars, Hairbows, and Generally Being a Maniac (video!)

Ahoy! Sorry for the radio silence. I’m trying to cram in a buuuuuuuunch of Yummy You work before going on a trip next week!! EEEE!!! I have been wanting to start exercising for a little while. My doctor told me back in November that I should lose like 5-10 lbs, but I never did anything about it because I was so busy. I figure now that there’s no such thing as the “right time” for anything, and I’ll always be busy, so I put on my gym shorts and my knee socks and went to business. I’m wearing the shirt and pigtails I slept in, and I didn’t bother to do my hair or my face. Here’s clips of me getting my sweat on with Carmen Electra’s work out. I am waiting for my Turbo Jam to arrive in the mail! Oh also, it’s kinda funny that Bibi is wandering around behind me the whole time. She likes to be supportive. 😛 Untitled from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo. Recently I went cray cray at the ebay store Refuse to be Usual. Items ship from Taiwan so you pay through the nose for shipping, so someone tell me where else I can find a hamburglar hoodie with hand-shaped pockets and a hand-shaped hoodie!! I actually took this pic for gothcupcake’s etsy shop for her hair bows, so if you click on the image above, you can get a pink sparkly hair bow, too! Lastly but not leastly, Dommie asked me to participate in a little Q&A on her blog, so check it out and find out what my favorite smells is!

If you ever wondered about the FANCYPACK!

| 21 Comments on If you ever wondered about the FANCYPACK!

Someone asked me on Formspring what I thought of the Fancypack available on Etsy. I’d bought one a long while ago, but frankly, the belt did not fit me properly, and I never wore it out, and I was too lazy to find a new belt for the pack and figure out how to get it on the new belt, Etc etc blah blah blah. Anyway, I am in love with the concept, so I recently bought a new Fancypack: GOLD!!!!!! Carla has changed the way she does the belts, and now they are on rings and adjustable! I decided to take it today on a dog walk. When you are wearing a dress and have no pockets, you don’t want to have to drag out a purse to carry your keys and poo bags and stuff on the dog walk, so what better chance to test drive my new accessory! I’ve a feeling these were intended for going out with your girlfriends and having the funtimes, but let me tell you, they work like a charm for taking your dogs for a poo as well (which I do WAY more than going out and having the funtimes).

Bibi Want Strawberry!!!

| 14 Comments on Bibi Want Strawberry!!!

I’m trying to eat more fruit, so I got some strawberries at Ranch 99 and started eating a few this afternoon. Since we don’t feed the dogs from the table, and not much human food at all (only raw or unseasoned sometimes-treats like rice or bananas or eggs), they are generally not overly interested in my snacks. But Bibi was SUPER interested in my strawberries, which was really weird! I looked online for a bit to see if strawberries were doggie-safe, and it looked like YES. Just not too much since it is acidic and can upset their tummies. Anyway, Bibi eating weird stuff is always funny to me. And yes, I DO spend too much time finding songs for my little videos!!! But I think this is Bibi’s new theme song.
