WIWT: The Dream of the 90s

Did you know that Hairy is a shopping-pusher? If you see something and say it’s cute, he’ll be like, “BUY EEEEET!!!! You never like anything BUYEEEEETTTT!!!” Doesn’t he see all the boxes and packages coming to the house all the time with clothes inside of them? I’m Twinkie Chan and I’m a shopaholic!

I bought this dress in the basement of TopShop in London. I had no idea the basement housed a myriad of “concessions” or racks and racks of various different brands. I loved it down there! We were in kind of a rush, plus I don’t like to spend lots of time shopping around Hairy, so I made a quick dash around the place and picked up three dresses. I’m sure the other two will appear very soon!

The boots I bought before the trip. I thought it was going to be cold, so I wanted to pack for cold weather! I had been on the lookout all winter for a pair of boots I could wear with dresses and also under jeans. I didn’t want a pointy toe or a pointy heel… I wanted it to be cute and girlie but not lolita. Needless to say, I have yet to find the perfect boot! So I went with some good ol’ Doc Martens in black patent.

As it turned out, it was quite warm in Dublin and London! Warmer than SF! We were very lucky. I just sweat a lot more than I’d planned 😛

Now that we are home, it is actually super duper hot in SF, even here in the dreary Sunset by the ocean! I actually feel a bit too naked in this outfit. I am not in the habit of showing my knees. I have a complex about my knees and thighs being gigantic and hideous, so we’ll see if I actually make it out of the house without sticking my trusty jeans underneath!

Dress: Dahlia
Boots: Doc Martens
Socks: UO

You could wear a garbage bag and make it look cute. 🙂

    • That’s what I’m wearing tomorrow.

Bring this look back, Twinkie! It’s too perfect with the combat boots. I used to wear a long, black lace skirt that I made after I ripped my prom dress apart (to use the lace), with bike shorts underneath, a long black t-shirt, and my black combat boots. Do you think I could pull that off at age 35? IDK. I’m a schoolteacher now. 🙂 The students love the food scarves, BTW. 🙂

    • I’ll be 35 in August! Of course you can pull it off!!!! The 90s totally made a come back! 😉

Sooooooooo 90s and the Docs just add the perfect 90s touch. Although you could add the floppy flower Blossom hat. Ha!

    • AHAHAHHAHAHA oh my gosh. I can’t say that I ever knew anybody who actually had the Blossom hat!

omg, *embarrassing time* i totally had the floppy denim blossom hat with a big white flower on it. it probably still even exists at my parents house somewhere! but i can’t recall ever actually wearing it, at least, heh. i have a hat complex – i buy them cuz they’re cute but never wear them because they make me too hot (i sweat a lot too!) and fudge up mah hairz.

anyways, i love the boots with this!

Bahaha @ Hairy being a shopping-pusher! I always have loads of packages come, and then have loads to take back 😛 I WISH I could just buy clothes and not have to return because it doesn’t fit or the quality is shit! So I totally get the angle Hairy is coming from! I’m very picky… picky to the point where, every year for Christmas, I’ve now incorporated christmas lists into the family, so we all get what we want!

Your knees do not look bad at all! Quite proportioned! Mine are too skinny/boney to the point where, I try not to ever wear shorts if I can avoid it!

You must’ve came to London at a really good week, because it’s been ugly grey this whole week, with a threatening of rain, whereas surprisingly, it was actually sunny when you were here!

    • Oh my family totally does wish lists, too!! I’m kind of at the point where I wouldn’t mind getting rid of the gift exchange at Xmas since we’re all adults and can buy our own crap! hehehhehe. I just like the food :P. BUt we still exchange gifts anyway, My brother wrote special code for our online wish lists 😛

Well at first I did think “will making lists, take away from the whole mystery + excitement of opening presents on christmas?”. But, even if we expect to get what we asked for, we still don’t know who’s getting us what, so that helps with the whole fun of opening gifts 😛 Plus, because others aren’t as picky (or as greedy) as me, they tend to not put alot of stuff on their lists, soooo some of their presents ARE surprises!

We cooooould buy our own stuff, but that’s not as fun as the whole family unwrapping stuff and having new things to look at, all on one day, haha! When I know I want to buy my own things, instead of risking someone else getting it for me, I put gift cards on my list 😛

Special code?! Woah what does that look like! That’s quite interesting!

I have a paranoia about my knees too so I feel your pain! That dress is very cute though! Sooooo sad I couldn’t get down to London 🙁 BOO!!

    • Very boooooOO!!!!!!

Hairy says to cover up the knees with thigh highs…but those things fall down all the time!

  • My boyfriend is JUST like that.

Love the dress! London’s TopShop is just…loooooooooooooove.

    • OMG the sales racks are crazy. I didn’t even look. I didn’t want to get trampled.

omg, the collar is killer cute!!

I think the knee/thigh thing is just a complex us under 5’5″ people have, because I do the same thing haha It’s part of the reason why I’m considering buying some platform sandals this summer, to give the illusion I have longer thin legs 😛

You (and your knees) look cute in the dress and boots combo!

    • I never thought of that!!!

Oh I lived in wedgey platform maryjanes forever until I couldn’t find anymore that I liked 🙁
