Superduper Last-minute HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY!!!!

EDIT!!!!!! THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED!!!!!!!! I WILL NO LONGER APPROVE COMMENTS FOR THIS ENTRY. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING! 🙂 🙂

Hey folks,
I’ve always wanted to do a giveaway, but I’ve been so crazy busy that I never have anything left to giveaway!
I took the opportunity after BazaarBizarre to put together a lil sumthinsumthin for all of you who have supported me and read my blog!

This giveaway package includes red and white striped peppermint wristwarmers/fingerless gloves, a red and white striped peppermint candy-heart necklace, and a red and wdhite swirled lollipop brooch.

TO ENTER:

Just leave a comment on my blog, telling me what your most favorite holiday treat is! (and make sure to enter your email address in the email address field so I know how to contact you!)

DEADLINE:

This is super quick! I will choose a winner with a random-number-generator on Monday, December 21st, at noon, PST. This way, I can hopefully have time to contact the winner, and have the winner send me his/her mailing address, and get the package out before the post office closes on the same day. For people in the U.S., the package should arrive before Xmas (according to the USPS….). Sorry to my international readers! I just didn’t get my act together in time! I will obviously still send the package to an international winner, but the package will probably definitely not arrive in time for Xmas.

Okay, this is my first giveaway at my own blog, so if I left anything out or messed something up…please let me know! 😛

xoxo

My favorite holiday treat would have to be gingerbread men because I make them once a year since i was in elementary 🙂 but then there’s the cheesecake my aunt makes which so yummy.

this is a tough one, but as someone else mentioned, i’m gonna go with peppermint bark also. i love minty chocolate things and the fact that it is called bark for some reason makes it even more fun for me…call me a weirdo.

It’s so hard to choose a favorite treat…I think I’m going to have to go with my mother’s coconut chocolate bars…mmmmm…I love those!

The last two holiday seasons I’ve not gone home to be with my family so my favourite things were not in the really in the picture. There was always my stand by of a couple of packages of contessa lebkuchen (a German gingerbread cake covered in chocolate on one side– here’s a link to what it looks like if you’re curious http://bit.ly/4rJK4P) and a bottle of Champagne. But this year I’m actually going there so I made a list for my mum of all the things we have to eat/make. Including all of my favourites that over the years make me think of the holidays: polish glamupki, spritz cookies (until they’re coming out of my ears), gingerbread cake with maple whip cream, molasses cookies, cheese straws, homemade Eggs Benedict, fresh pasta, some kind of risotto (sun dried tomatoes, zucchini something), and I’m sure there’s at least 5 other kinds of cookies she’s planning that I don’t know about, and that’s just the start of the list!

I hope you have a holiday filled with warmth, lots of sweet treats, and time enough to finish all your crocheting/holiday presents! I know I’ll be knitting until the last minute!

    • i was totally talking about making cheese straws for presents for some body!!! any tips!! 😉

Here’s my Mum’s recipe and advice–

1 Lb of cheese- grated- make sure it’s a super sharp cheese or the cheesy flavour won’t come through
1 stick of unsalted butter- melted
        2 c. flour
        ½ tsp salt
        ½ tsp red cayenne pepper

Mix all the ingredients together, chill for a few hours,
Roll out on wax paper, pretty thin, not paper-thin but not as thick at cookies; more like piecrust and less like cookies, and cut out in the shapes that you want, bake at 325 for 10-12 min

Be sure not to put too much flour when you roll it out—or it won’t taste like cheese anymore it will taste like flour— that’s why it’s important to roll out on wax paper.

To make straw shape cut with one of those wavy pastry cutters and cut in sections about 3 inch long and an inch wide…
or what my mum does; she cuts in them in circles with a circle cookie cutter, and then cuts a date in half and pinches the two sides of the circle over the top of the date and bakes them, the date doesn’t affect the cooking time.

My Mum says they taste better if you make them a day ahead and put them in a tin box and then use them, not a few days… just the one day in the tin box.

I’ve not comment on your blog much, as I don’t usually feel like I have something intelligent or witty to say. So maybe I should start, regardless 🙂

My favourite holiday treat is making Chocolate Balls with my family. They have also been referred to as Naked Chaked Balls due to the chocolate crash and burn a few years back and our lack of chocolate dipping sauce.

And this year, we watched a Robin Williams comedy special, so they were especially dirty. Like, inviting my sister’s boyfriend, but informing him that he would have to dip is own balls.

Yeah…my family is kinda odd 🙂

    • ahahhhhaa your family sounds fun!!!

  • Sandy

    says:

My favorite treat are sugar cookies and mexican wedding cookies! NOM!

  • Jaclyn

    says:

    Hey Twinkie!

As someone who is constantly baking, it’s pretty hard to pick just one holiday favorite! If I have to choose just one sweet treat, I’d have to pick Buckeyes…how can you go wrong with peanut butter, powdered sugar, and butter rolled together, dipped in chocolate, and then stashed conveniently in the freezer?

They’re like my secret treats that I made just for me to keep me on a sugar high while I’m baking cookies for everyone else! :]

  • Theresa

    says:

I love the pizzelles my mom makes for Christmas. They look like pretty little snowflakes and they’re so tasty!

  • Naomi

    says:

For Hannukah I really love jelly doughnuts that are coated in sugar and super squishy and amazing, haha. I always end up eating too many but they taste so good!

  • Elaina

    says:

Hmmm…seems that everyone is choosing treats that are homemade/baked? I like the chocolates that only ‘come out’ at Christmas. Toffifee and Ferrero Roche…mmm. This is maybe no one in my family bakes?

  • Jo

    says:

It’s a tie between my mom’s pumpkin bread with cream cheese icing (all homemade) or our traditional holiday iced sugar cookies. But if I could only have one forever I would pick the pumpkin bread because it is just irresistible.

  • Brittney

    says:

My favorite holiday treat is apple pie for Christmas. I love apples, and I love pie, so they go together nicely. My mom once made me a pie for my birthday and I ate about half of it lol.
Omg I just noticed the winner is announced on my birthday! 😀

  • Airemiss

  • Stephanie!

    says:

Awww, this is so awesome! Thanks so much!

My favorite Christmas treat would have to be ribbon candy. Its my dad’s favorite too. I don’t have a whole lot of holiday memories with him, but every year we (just the two of us) would hit up every single candy store in search of ribbon candy, coz it was what made his christmas. For some reason it was really hard to find!

  • paulie

    says:

hard to choose… peppermint bark makes me squee tho. cookies… i decorate cookies like my life pended on it.. and ANYTHING covered in chocolate, but thats all year round. 🙂

I have a major sweet tooth, so I couldn’t pick just one treat, but I managed to narrow it down to two. Peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and thumbprint cookies with cream cheese frosting. 🙂

  • Nicki

    says:

I don’t what to do. My favorite is dark chocolate/white chocolate bark from godiva. Use to get it fresh when I worked there. Though I am insulin resistant and no longer allowed carbs or sweets. Though I would gladly dress myself to look sweet!

    says:

My favorite holiday treat is eggnog! You can drink it plain, with rum, and use it in baking! It’s like the holiday swiss army knife! And the best thing about eggnog is that they make dairy/egg free nog for vegans or friends with food allergies! Eggnog makes everyone happy!

oh k- all that said my mom was not what you’d call the typical mom who loves to cook and bake for christmas- my grandma (who loved upstairs in the house we lived in with them)- loved to cook- but again not bake so much!! so I can’t remember any special baked treat or special christmas food (ask me bout thanksgiving!!)!
but every christmas morning after we’d open our presents with our mom downstairs- we’d run upstairs to grandma and grandpa and open gifts and have pancake breakfast…i loved that morning!! jeez- i honestly hadn’t thought of that since they were both alive!! thank you! you helped bring back some fond memories and that means alot!!!

This is thee best giveaway EVAR!!!!! I’d just about shank my own mama for a heart candy cane necklace.

My favorite holiday treat are these tiny square pieces of cheescake that my favorite Aunt brings to Christmas every single year. I only have them at Christmas and I wait for them every year. My fave is the raspberry swirl and turtle!

    • “I’d just about shank my own mama for a heart candy cane necklace.”

oh my god. i totally laughed out loud!

  • My favorite treat during the holidays is simply that of a rainbow candy cane.

I love dining on one and fashioning a razor sharp treat from meticulously sucking on the candy cane.

I’ve had a few incidents wherein I’ve pricked my mouth with the deadly candy cane but it is honestly fun as hell and worth the casualties.

    Happy Holidays!

My favorite is English toffee. My family has made it every year for as long as I can remember. I would even eat it when I had a retainer, and just let it dissolve back into sugar. Mmmmm.

The best part when making it is when the chocolate chips have melted on top and you get to spread them with a butter knife. So cool!

You drop them on wax paper and add a few red hots for the berries. Come to think of it, a holly cookie scarf would be super cool! Happy Holidays ~ Kristin
